Wanted to visit Tangier and explore the Costa de la Luz and Hotel Misiana was a good choice in Tarifa. It had a great location within easy walking distance of the port, and a little farther to the beach. There were several restaurants/bars on the same street and many in the near vicinity including the small promenade Paseo de la Alameda. It's just on the edge of the old town and with a nice church at top of the street. We checked in at the bar, seeing no actual Reception which turned out to be on second floor in the back and not often manned. We were given 3 keys, one to access a side door if the bar were closed, one for the elevator, and one for the room. The only problem that needs to be addressed is the lighting outside the rooms. The light was so dim we couldn't see to get the key in the lock.
There was limited paid street parking but could never find a space so parked at a small manned garage on San Sebastian the hotel recommended. It was too far to walk with suitcases so had to drop off luggage first.
We had a front facing room with half-wall of windows that wrapped around for a good view of the old castle walls. The room was a good size with a small TV and brightly painted and decorated, with moorish accents. It might seem a bit garish for some but we loved it. The bathroom was good size with plenty of counter space around the sink for your stuff. Had a hairdryer.
Breakfast was included but they were painting the floor of the bar/restaurant area and we were told to go just up the street to be served at another restaurant which was no problem. It consisted of OJ, toasted long roll with jam, and coffee. Would've liked to see maybe cheese or some sliced meat. They had a limited lunch/dinner menu which we didn't try.
The bar area was of a modern, contemporary style and favored by the young set. There were some outside tables. One night a week they have a tango demonstration. Others joined in, it was great, really enjoyable.
This is not a traditional hotel, it's a little quirky, but we liked it.
