“There is no doubt in my mind that I am going back to Dar Cilla.”

I had great expectations because I had read all the reviews about Dar Cills; they were exceeded by far. I am a fussy and seasoned traveller and no matter how pleased I am with accommodation, at the end of a stay, I am ready to go home. This was not the case in Tarifa and as I sat looking out across the sea from our superb terrace on the last evening, I promised myself to return to Dar Cilla. We saw all the apartments and we would consider most of them next time round but the Amadeus suite was superb in every way. We were shown the greatest hospitality but enjoyed total privacy. We wanted for nothing because everything was right there. Dar Cilla is not a Guest House, it is a home with a heart and three blithe spirits, Zoe, Martina and Celia.

I was booked in Dar Cilla since a very long time and got a bit worried when I read the review saying a lack of privacy and no level of service at all. I perceive that those guests must just have been unlucky with other noisy gueste around them. For me it was perfect and all the staff were just fun and very caring. I loved to makee my own breakfast and carry it up to the roof terrace and while I was out new (fluffy) towels were put in. Rubbish containers just opposite the street.....Plenty of excellent information including a book on Tarifa(www.tarifainsideout.net) written by the owner. There were piles of lovelu recent magazines on the roofterras. I agree you can hear other guests sometimes, but I enjoyed hearing other languages spoken around me. Good for my Italian! There are some rules like you can't arrive between 2 and 6pm, because this is the spanish siesta-time! You cannot smoke anywhere in the Dar....this was difficult for me but it had said on the website. Obviously you cannot bring in other guests on the terras without asking the manager first for securityreasons. This way it stays private and quiet!! They call Dar Cilla "a public secret" because there are no boards hanging out. You cannot hear any noise from the town which was different when I stayed in another place....It was the place for me since I look for intimacy and design and a nice atmosphere and the faboulous roor terras. I wasn't on a business trip so I didn't want a hotel with roomservice and shiny t v's. It gave me a holidayfeeling! I loved it!

“relax in style”

We spent 5 nights in Zahara, a beautifully decorated apartment and we enjoyed every second of our stay.

The location of Dar Cilla is great – just on the wall of old Tarifa city centre, so both beach and market / restaurants of the historic part of Tarifa are within walking distance.
All apartments we saw are equipped with everything one could possibly need during a stay (incl. iPod / CDs, travel guide Andalucia / Marocco, ice cubes in the fridge and a balcony) and decorated with a lot of “attention to detail”.

On top of that Dar Cilla has a fantastic roof terrace (needless to say that also on the roof terrace there is everything you need – incl. cushions, towels, magazines and even sombreros! :-) – and you can take a shower on the roof terrace while looking over to Africa!

But the very best part of Dar Cilla is the people – Zoë and her team manage not only to make you feel at home and perfectly at ease the second you enter Dar Cilla but also to give you the feeling to stay with friends.

If you are looking for a self-catering apartment and appreciate design, style and a friendly atmosphere – Dar Cilla is the place to be!

“Terrific!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

Dar Cilla calls itself a guest house. However don't worry - it has no features in common with the UK version! It isn't a B&B, nor is it an hotel. It is instead a group of individually-designed apartments with on-site support and advice (only if you need it) from the owner and the manager. The folder and book written by Zoe are remarkably helpful. Do go to Bolonia - great beach and roman ruins too!

All the apartments have access to a lovely roof terrace from which you can see Morocco. We stayed in the super 'Amadeus' apartment which has its own private roof terrace with a dining table, sun-loungers and seats just to admire the view. The wind in Tarifa is famously good for kite and wind-surfers - but it does mean that some days the beach isn't suitable for sunbathing (unless you like the sand-blasting effect). The roof terrace at Dar Cilla is partially sheltered from the wind so it was a great plus.

The decor inside Amadeus was also atmospheric and well-thought out and the air-con in the main bedroom was an unexpected touch. The two bathrooms are well-appointed. As it is an apartment you do need to supply your own shampoo etc - but as long as you know in advance it isn't a problem. The apartment location is excellent - so close to the old town with all its shops, restaurants and bars. The only (tiny) downside is the lack of a dedicated parking place - but it usually isn't too hard to find a spot in the streets nearby.

We recommend it highly!
