I stayed in the studio room which was very spacious and beautifully and thoughtfully decorated & equipped. Really appreciated the bottle of red left for me after a very long public transport trip to get to Tarifa. If you're a solo traveller and dont mind single beds the studio is great value. There's a kitchenette (bar fridge, sink, kettle, toaster oven & hotplate) which is all you need given the large number of cafes and restaurants in the area. There's all the crockery you need and a selection of books & an ipod with speakers. There's lots of information about the area (and neighburing Morocco) and the staff are all very helpful. The roof top garden has amazing views across the ocean to Africa, I sat there most evenings to watch the sunset, drink wine and eat olives.
Martina, celia and Zoe were all friendly and helpful but without being intrusive.
I highly recommend a trip to Tangier and also Said, the guide recommended by Dar Cilla. I had him to myself for the entire day, he tailored his tour to the things I was interested in and his knowledge is very impressive. The ferry companies do package trips which looked ghastly, regimented and with a horde of other people, and they were only $US20 cheaper. I felt his fee was far too cheap and suggest you tip generously. Also make sure you have room in your luggage, I'm not really one for shopping for pleasure and most of the tour was historical (as I'm a huge history nerd) but I still ended up with quite a haul of goodies - had to boost my luggage allowance for the eventual flight back to UK). On the shopping note, even if you dont intend to buy, head to Jimmy's shop at the Hotel Continental. Trust me it's worth a chat with the lovely Jimmy.
Tarifa itself is a beautiful part of the world but can be difficult without a car. I took 2 buses and a taxi to get there and while it was easy it took the better part of a day. Tarifa is great for the beach, for eating and for wandering around the old town. If you want to do anything else you probably want to hire a car.
All in all Dar Cilla is a lovely place to stay in a lovely part of the world.
