“Beautiful rooms & views, helpful & friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

I stayed in the studio room which was very spacious and beautifully and thoughtfully decorated & equipped. Really appreciated the bottle of red left for me after a very long public transport trip to get to Tarifa. If you're a solo traveller and dont mind single beds the studio is great value. There's a kitchenette (bar fridge, sink, kettle, toaster oven & hotplate) which is all you need given the large number of cafes and restaurants in the area. There's all the crockery you need and a selection of books & an ipod with speakers. There's lots of information about the area (and neighburing Morocco) and the staff are all very helpful. The roof top garden has amazing views across the ocean to Africa, I sat there most evenings to watch the sunset, drink wine and eat olives.

Martina, celia and Zoe were all friendly and helpful but without being intrusive.

I highly recommend a trip to Tangier and also Said, the guide recommended by Dar Cilla. I had him to myself for the entire day, he tailored his tour to the things I was interested in and his knowledge is very impressive. The ferry companies do package trips which looked ghastly, regimented and with a horde of other people, and they were only $US20 cheaper. I felt his fee was far too cheap and suggest you tip generously. Also make sure you have room in your luggage, I'm not really one for shopping for pleasure and most of the tour was historical (as I'm a huge history nerd) but I still ended up with quite a haul of goodies - had to boost my luggage allowance for the eventual flight back to UK). On the shopping note, even if you dont intend to buy, head to Jimmy's shop at the Hotel Continental. Trust me it's worth a chat with the lovely Jimmy.

Tarifa itself is a beautiful part of the world but can be difficult without a car. I took 2 buses and a taxi to get there and while it was easy it took the better part of a day. Tarifa is great for the beach, for eating and for wandering around the old town. If you want to do anything else you probably want to hire a car.

All in all Dar Cilla is a lovely place to stay in a lovely part of the world.

Room Tip: Don't be wary of the studio room, very comfortable and roomy.

“Great beach guesthouse/hostal and excellent for trip to Tangier!”

Martina (the manager) of Dar Cilla was excellent, kind, easy to contact and gave great advice and detailed instructions for our visit to Tangier, Morocco. She arranged for us to have a private guide (Said) in Tangier which is the ONLY way that you should see Tangier, Morocco.
We stayed in the Zahara suite. It was very big and very nice!
Decorated very well. You can cook your food here also. Has a mini-frig.
An amazing balcony/patio.
I highly recommend Dar Cilla.
We are looking forward to returning here.
There is a detailed book of recommendations in each room about restaurants/places to go see etc that I recommend to use during your stay.

“I don't want to ruin the reviews as I haven't stayed there.”

Not sure what is happening. I have emailed twice through their booking site and once directly to the hotel. I even called and left a message, all over the period of 3-4 weeks and I have had no response from anyone. Just thought that it was important to share this information with other travelers. i would love to stay and share my opinion. Hopefully I'll stop by and update this review.

Other guest house owners have told me the same – once something starts to go wrong it usually goes really wrong! This would seem to be the case with the comments of the writer of the recent review concerning his potential booking. We have printed out copies of the many e mails Martina sent, which apparently never reached the writer. I can only assume our computers were not ‘talking to each other’. I , Zoë, owner of Dar Cilla, would only add that I have worked with delight with Martina, General Manager, for the last five years and know she always replies within 24 hours (usually 12 – I am sure our other guests would confirm this); I have myself seen her replying from the middle of the desert in Morocco. I am of course very sorry George seems to have been unlucky – obviously even the latest technology has its shortcomings. I trust he will be happy wherever he has now booked in Tarifa.

“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

This is probably the nicest place in Tarifa, Spain. They have a shower on the rooftop terrace and you can soak under the hot water while you take in the view of the Strait of Gibraltar and the rugged peaks of Morocco (day or night). Then head down to your Moroccan-style apartment, cook yourself a gourmet dinner and head up to the terrace again for a nice sunset dinner. You'll probably never fall in love with Tarifa, but the Dar Cilla will give you good memories of the place.

“Can't wait to return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

My partner & I were lucky to stay here earlier this month, but unfortunately just for two nights. What can I say that hasn't already been said...it's just the best place to stay in Tarifa! It's simple to find, right on the main road into town. We had a rental car and had no problem finding a spot to park nearby. Martina & Zoe couldn't have been more helpful with recommendations on where to eat, etc. Plus they lined up a guide for us for a day trip to Tangier who was just perfect...we'll never forget that day. So much attention has been paid to making the rooms comfortable, you won't want to leave and the roof top terrace is just amazing. We went on to Gibraltar & London from here, but we really wished we just booked the rest of our vacation at Dar Cilla...like I said we can't wait to return!
