This hotel is located right on the Balcon de Europa, located on the east end of the Costa del Sol. It is surrounded by many local restaurants. The rooms are a bit small, but comfortable, and the price is reasonable for the area.

We stayed at the Hostal Marissal during the Nerja Feria, a fiesta centred on the local car park but punctuated with colourful parades. Between 8th October and 12th October 2011 the town of Nerja put on a different face for the loud and colourful festival.
The Marissal, ideally situated on the Paseo Balcon de Euoropa, was an great base for watching the parades.
Once again we stayed in the Apartment at the Marissal, simply furnished in traditional Andalusian style. The apartment consists of 2 bedrooms, one double and one twin, a fully equipped kitchen ( fridge, stove, washing machine , dryer ) . There are also 2 modern bathrooms and a living room with 2 balconies looking out towards the Balcon de Europa.
Our stay was not disturbed by the fireworks and music from the fiesta once the double glazed doors were closed. A real plus along with the a/c .
The housekeeping still do a marvelous job and are very helpful.
Reception, while not 24hrs was also very accomodating.
The adjoining cafe can get busy, but so what, you're on vacation .... relax .
As for the sceptics, yes it is value for money and we'll be back in 2012.

Located right on the Balcón de Europa the location couldn't be better!
There are several lovely beaches in just a few minutes walking distance.
It's rated a two-star hostal, but could absolutely do as a three-star hotel.
Nice and comfortable rooms, nice cafeteria where you can have your breakfast.

Some less nice things; They don't change the bathroom towels unless you leave them on the floor. That's common, but then there's normally a sign saying that (not here). And after having had the same sheets for seven nights, I wrote a note to the cleaning lady that we wanted them changed. And, in some rooms, you are not allowed to dry your swim wear or beach towel on the balcony. But these little details are nothing to get upset about...

So yes, I would definitely stay here again!

My daughter stayed here from 22 - 26th September 2011 while we stayed at the Puerto del mar however we were at her hotel so often I feel I can comment. Her room 102 had the most beautiful view of the Balcon de europa and the scenery beyond. It was beatifully furnished in the spanish style, rustic and simple. The bathroom was spacious and there was plenty of storage. The rate was room only so we had to but breakfast on the terrace below. The only downside was the ba staff doubled as the reception staff and you had to hang around a bit to get attention. Also my daughter and niece were checking out early and had to do it the night before as were told no -ne was there until 9 30 am which seems a little strange if correct but they just paid up the evening before. As there was no 24 hr reception there were times when the swipe cards did not function causing the odd panic trying to get in late but with patience they worked. There was an out of hrs no to phone if there was a problem but no one did that. It was very clean and pleasant and we would recommend it as an alternative to the Puerto del Mar
