“Unwelcomed, ungreeted, far from town and sea, bitterly cold, bitterly disappointing”
We booked on the advice of an advisor at Lowcost holidays, who thought this was suitable for an elderly lady in a wheelchair looking for a central, accessible self catering apartment in the sun.
The apartment was on the ground floor, but is situated on a steep hill, and accessible only by four steps. Not many, but too many for me, struggling with a wheelchair and its occupant.
A written message on a noticeboard outside the closed reception told us to phone a number to be given access. We had to borrow a mobile from the taxi driver, who was very worried about leaving us alone in the dark, but had to do so. After 20 minutes, a harrassed lady came with keys to the apartment, and a plan of the development showing which flat was ours. She did not work for the company, she said, and had to go home to her small children, so please find our own way. Eventually, she let us use her phone to call the "receptionist", who told us it was a public holiday, and hung up.
The flat was bitterly cold, and there was no heating. The beds were chilled, and there were 2 thin blankets each.I slept in my fleece jacket, with my coat above to let the old lady have my second blanket, but in the morning she was blue with cold. I put on all the cooker rings, and plugged in the kettle. The electricity went off with a bang.
Later, met "the receptionist " going into the office. He offered me one radiator - more would blow the electrics, he said,. and 2 more blankets. He said "You have plenty, and it is not cold."
The old lady was ashen.
We walked the 3 km into Nerja - me pushing the wheelchair, and lifting it up and sown the kerbs - and found the nicest apartments have stayed in anywhere, and at a very good price.
Please see my glowing review of Tobosso Aparthotel.....
Do NOT stay at Las Rosas - we met two families with young children who said they had been cold, they had been told there was a swimming pool for the kids, but it was closed, and that they would never book with Thomas Cook again...
