Stayed here for a week at the end of August 2011 - beginning of September 2011. We stayed in room 103 which is pretty much directly above reception. The room and bathroom were modern and spotlessly clean with air-con. The room was quite small but this wasn't really an issue for us and we only used it to sleep and get washed and dressed to go out. It has a very comfortable proper double bed (not two singles pushed together). The room was cleaned everyday and towels and bedding were changed. The flat screen TV (on the wall) was all spanish TV (as you would expect - no english TV channels).
The location is pretty much spot on with the nightlife being about 5 mins down the road. We had a tiny balcony over the street which was nice. We didn't notice any problems with noise at night when trying to get to sleep.
The hostal has a garden area for use by guests of which we had a quick look. If you wanted to have a bit of a sunbathe it would be nice, but we just went down to the beach most days.
Burriana Beach is about 10 mins walk away, but the beaches near the Balcon de Europe are a bit nearer.
There's a great local cafe accross the street (about 30m down the road) called Cafe Duque (I think) which we found ideal for breakfast. There is also a green grocer directly opposite the cafe which we used for some fruit for snacks etc.
The staff running the hostal were very friendly and relaxed (in a good way). Their english was ok (better than my limited spanish) and we got by just fine.
The free Wi-Fi came in handy and I could access it from my room (directly above reception) not sure about other rooms, but you have to get the password from the person on reception (I'm sure they wouldn't want me to publish it here!).
All in all, a fantastic little place to stay if you want somewhere nice and clean to stay while you explore the local area, or just chill out on the beach and eat some great food for a week or maybe two.
But if you like to laze around a pool for a week then this might not be for you.
Only other issue is that of parking your car (which can be difficult in Nerja). To my knowledge, the main Nerja car parks have started to charge now (previously free). But you should be able to find a spot to dump the car for free within a few minutes walk.
I would definately recommend this place, in fact my parents have just booked a few nights there for when they will be passing through Nerja next month.
