We have just returned from a relaxing 5 night break at the Marinas de Nerja. Overall, we found the hotel to be excellent value for money and would defintely recommend the all inclusive option.
On arrival we were upgraded from the studio we had booked to a 1 bed apartment. The room was very large with separate lounge/kitchen area. Plenty of wardrobe space - 3 saparate wardrobes which we didnt really need but would be ideal if you were staying longer than 5 days. We were sadly not fcing the pool, beach area which we were not too bothered about for the price we paid and free upgrade but it did mean it was quite dark as the room didnt get the sun during the day and we could hear the cockerils and dogs from the farm at the side of the hotel but this wasnt too distracting. We arrived fairly late and as the buffet had finished, the staff left us a meal in ourroom. I thought this was a realy nice touch and all we had to do was give it a quick blast in the microwave. Also because we did nt get to have lunch on our first day, the receptionist marked on our room card that we could enjoy lunch and the AI facilities on the day we were to check out - effectively free drinks etc until 3pm. I have not known this in a hotel before so we were quite impressed.
At this time of year, the hotel is certainly geared towards the older clientele and we did feel quite young playing bingo and listening to 82 year old Frank Sinatra impersonator, Tony Lee from Batley! However, we got into the spirit of things, made some friends and enjoyed the drinks.
The restaurant was good, food plentiful and varied. Sometimes mealtimes were a bit busy, particularly on the weekend when Spanish come for their weekends.
the outside areas and pool were well maintained and clean with plenty of loungers and seating areas. We would have liked it if the pool bar had have opened during the day to save walking from the beach to the bar inside to get a drink. Im not sure why this was the case on the warmer days where more people were outside then inside, maybe the hotel could review this based on where most people are sitting?
The staff were fine, they did not go out of their way to be extra chatty but were on the whole polite.
The hotel is a 20min walk into Nerja. Nerja is nice but we found it very quiet on an evening and a bit disappointingly lacking in atmosphere. However this was probably to do with the time of year or night we chose to go out. During the day there was a bit more atmosphere and it is quite pretty and a lot more spanish than other resorts we have stayed in spain before. Being AI we did not take advantage of any restaurants in Nerja but there were plenty and they looked very nice.
We had a trip out to Frigiliana which is well worth going to and a visit to the caves which was ok but we were literally only in the caves for 30 minutes (8.50 euro pp) so you cannot really spend a whole afternoon or day here.
I would recommned this hotel and im sure you will have a nice relaxing break here. If you are 60+ you will enjoy it even more and I'm sure make lots of new friends! If you are under 50, relax and enjoy the slower pace of life here!
