“Very Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

3rd stay in Maro, 2nd at this hotel. The proximity to the motorway worries some reviewers, and worried me when we arrived and saw we had a large room on the 1st floor with 2 windows directly overlooking it (and the distant sea), but the sound of it hardly entered the room. The double glazing and shutter does work. The room was very comfortable, clean and well equiped. Stayed 2 nights and slept very well. Food unimaginative but good value. Service slow on the night of a conference but very friendly despite the language barrier. Speak to them, try a little phrase book Spanish, have a laugh and they do try.

There are 2 local shops selling "everything" in Maro which is a 5 minutes leisurely walk away. There are also 4 restaurants in Maro.

Yes you probably do need a car, but no problem. The very popular Playo Maro is 40 minutes walk away but is so popular at weekends and parking so limited that you might as well walk. Then you can enjoy the excellent beach bar restaurant before the more strenuous walk back. Further down the coast are more beautiful beaches. There is also the must do caves 5 minutes walk uphill.

And all this with 2 nights half board for less than the price of a night, room only, in a Premier Inn in the UK. Recommend it? Go figure.

“Secluded, clean, value for money !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2009

Carhire was essential for our trip as we like to see whats off the beach. The hotel was very good value for money but sits back in its own privacy. Near the motorway but dont be put off- u dont really hear the traffic at night. The room was clean and air-con made it comfy for a good nights sleep. A fridge was helpfull for milk, water and a chilled bottle of white wine. We did not eat in the hotel but the food looked lovely and we spoke with other guests who backed up the menu and the service. We have both stayed in worse hotels. The staff(all spanish) were helpfull and polite.A short taxi to Nerja costs 8euros. We walked in and out one day and in that heat it was a tester- but there was no rush !

“Dont go unless you want to be in the middle of no-where next to motorway!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2009

this hotel is basic but ok,but its location is shocking! unfortunatley its a 45min walk to nearest shop (not great in baking sun) and its next to motorway and miles from any beaches or civilisation, my boyfriend and i felt it was best described as a travel lodge type accomodation -only useful if needing a short stay whilst traveling to another destination. we had booked for a week but ended up only staying one night as it would have spoiled our holiday not being close to any shops or restautants. The only restaurant within walking distance is the hotels one-which appeared ok but not ideal for a full weeks stay. this place is cheap for a reason.
the pool was small , but nice but the overgrown gardens and you could sit and watch cars fly past on mnotorway whilst lazying next to pool.

“You need a car to get to and from this remote hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2009

Having just returned from this hotel, we feel the need to advise other travellers about it.. Firstly, the hotel is situated about 3 km uphill to the North of Nerja, next to the village of Maro, and sits about 50 metres from the 4 lane main motorway to Almeria. The good points are...Staff are ok, the rooms are clean, and cleaned every day. Towels and sheets changed most days. A/C is available, but you must ask the staff to switch it on for your individual room. Internet broadband available in the reception and patio area. However, the bad points; we found the owners very aloof and not friendly towards the British. The very small pool and terrace area is very noisy as the very busy motorway is only 50 yards away..sorry have i mentioned that before. The pool is not cleaned or filtered every day, and most of the tatty sunbeds were unusable. There is absolutely no entertainment or recreational facilities at all. The hotel menu is very limited, and with no decent bars or restaurants nearby, you will have to go into Nerja (3km away) to get decent variation and quality food. we were told however, that a chef who teaches at a local cooking school does cook sometimes at the hotel. However, not when we ate there he didn't... what we did have wasn't very nice. The hotel has a function room (for private do's only) Without a car, you would be stuck, as the taxi's are very expensive. Taxi from Malaga airport to the small village of Maro (where the hotel is situated) is about £190 return. We hired a car for about £150 for 12 days at the airport. YOU NEED A CAR, sorry have i said that before...you really do.
