We just returned from a 1 week stay here and I have to stay it was nice, comfortable and was absolutely fine for us, I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable week in a lovely part of Southern Spain. The village itself, Maro, is beautiful, small streets
with the wonderful whitewashed buildings, hardly any tourists, we loved that about it. It is about 30 mins walk to the outskirts of Nerja, the busier part, then another 20-25 mins walk downhill to the closest beach there (Playa Burriana) or straight along towards the centre of town and the Balcon de Europa. You can also get the bus but check the timetables as they don't come as often as folk say and sometimes the driver will ask you for a ticket and other times you can use money!?! Don't know what that was about! Taxi from Maro to Nerja costs us 7 euros. Bus was 85 cents. We really liked Nerja also and would stay there if we went back, there are plenty of nice quiet places to stay there too. The Playamaro hotel wasn't posh but our room was clean and maids came every day. The only complaint I would have is that I had booked a kitchen and they said I didn't but the room had a fridge and they gave us a kettle and cups so that was fine. The pool wasn't very clean but it was a bit too cold to go in it anyway. We were B & B and it was very good, the typical cereal, toast, rolls, cheese, ham, yoghurts, fruit etc so plenty of choice and good time between 8.30am-10.30am! The only thing I would say is that the beach is a long walk downhill for about 20-25 mins then you have to come back up again! But it was fine for us, just might not be for some elderly folk who can't walk far. It was a lovely wee beach though, with a bar that's open in the high season. Overall we loved it here and would definitely return! Although probably to a different hotel just for a change! :o)
