We stayed a night at hotel Coso Viejo on our way to Sevilla. We noticed that the receptionist wasn´t in a good mood, when we arrived. The hotel is in the centre of the town, we just crossed the plaza and took the stairs to get to the castle. The hotel was nearly empty, but we got a room right next to the elevator, so we put the bed away from the wall. Our room is good and clean, not so spacious. The patio is really lovely. We booked a parking, but we got the smallest space, difficult to get in with the car and get out of the car haha... The receptionist wasn´t helpful because she said. ¨I have a bigger car and have no problems to park at that spot¨. So after the unfriendly manner of the receptionist, we decided to have our dinner and breakfast in town.

The first impression of the hotel was, the location is good and the reception / breakfast area looks nice. When you pay for a hotel you expect to deal with friendly personnel though and the woman at the reception just was not that friendly. The parking places in the hotel parking are very tight and are better to be avoided. The room was clean, the bathroom quite nice but the view was a wall just across from the window and the mini bar was empty. The relation price / quality was not bad but just because of the personnel I would find another hotel the next time I want to stay in Antequera.

Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

Rooms are very very cosy, I mean small, but adequate. Bathrooms are smart too as was the reception/breakfast area.

The staff were extremely friendly and also helpful in choosing a restaurant but the one outside up the hill 20 yards away is fine!

Now, the reason only 3 stars:

There were a lot of maintenance problems such as blocked sink, no hot water in the sink, leaking toilet & broken window catches. All small but too many to ignore. The staff were very apologetic but I do hope they will fix these.

Insist on a room away from the road, traffic runs all night and the use of the horn appears mandatory. The lovely square across the road is the drop off and pick up point for all coach tours so expect the noise of hustle and bustle almost 24/7. Rear rooms may not have a view but you will not be disturbed as much.

The Coso Viejo is not plush; neither is it stylish. But it may well offer all a traveller needs in the attractive old town of Antequera. We arrived disgracefully early at 10.00am, but they still found us a room straight away. It was not the last word in comfort, but it was more than adequate. The hotel itself has a lovely tiled internal courtyard, which is where the reception area is and where breakfast is served. Its situation is ideal, as it is set opposite the quiet square where the town museum is. The town's main attractions are all easily accessible from the hotel (the Carmen church and the Alcazaba by foot, the dolmen caves by car). The hotel has, unusually for Spain a spacious car park which, doubly unusually, seemed to be empty when we were there; and it is next door to the Las Hazuelas bar restaurant - indeed, many of the hotel's rooms are above it. This could give some guests concerns about noise, but the food there is very good indeed.
