Located about 5 miles west of Antequerra, an old but unremarkable city, this is a renovated old convent in a great location for daytripping to Granada, Cordova and other sites around. The setting is remarkably pretty, pastoral with surrounding hills covered with olive groves.
The facility is a huge building with a gym, sauna, steam room and pool. It has a bar where lighter fare can be eaten and a formal diningroom, very large, with plate glass windows on the west side overlooking the hills. The food in both places is passable and not terribly expensive. A very complete breakfast buffet is available with someone there to cook a hot breakfast for you. All service throughout the hotel was cheerful, friendly and most efficient. The reception staff all speak very good English and are very helpful in many ways.
When one arrives, after a rather twisty ,turny roadway, you enter a big walled in courtyard, then into the hotel where the reception is in a long hallway sort of a room to the right. As soon as you enter the courtyard the music starts, lofty, spiritual music with lots of ethereal sopranos and choirs. This sets quite a mood for you, however, the music continues day after day, hour after hour, but you soon learn to tune it out.
Our rooms were down below on the west side, right below the dining room and the same level as the gym. I would recommend these rooms because each one opens to ground level with a view of the hills described above. Each room has its own little vegetable garden with real veggies growing i.e. some strawberries, eggplant, tomatos, etc. The access to the outside is through two big solid doors followed by two big French type glass doors. All very pretty and atmospheric. Our room was well appointed with nice furniture, a large bath with double lavatories, a walk in shower with multiple shower heads, a jacuzzi bathub. Lot's of bathroom amenities were provided.
Our stay here was very pleasant and unique. I highly recommend it because it is in a peaceful, bucolic setting with modern facilities otherwise. One bit of advice. We booked directly with the hotel and got a room for 90 euros that included a very well supplied breakfast buffet. Our traveling partners paid the same price but booked through a website and were told that therefore, they would have to pay 15 or so euros for the buffett. Be wise and book direct. It went very smoothly.
