“location,location,location, NOT! but excellent otw.”

Located about 5 miles west of Antequerra, an old but unremarkable city, this is a renovated old convent in a great location for daytripping to Granada, Cordova and other sites around. The setting is remarkably pretty, pastoral with surrounding hills covered with olive groves.

The facility is a huge building with a gym, sauna, steam room and pool. It has a bar where lighter fare can be eaten and a formal diningroom, very large, with plate glass windows on the west side overlooking the hills. The food in both places is passable and not terribly expensive. A very complete breakfast buffet is available with someone there to cook a hot breakfast for you. All service throughout the hotel was cheerful, friendly and most efficient. The reception staff all speak very good English and are very helpful in many ways.

When one arrives, after a rather twisty ,turny roadway, you enter a big walled in courtyard, then into the hotel where the reception is in a long hallway sort of a room to the right. As soon as you enter the courtyard the music starts, lofty, spiritual music with lots of ethereal sopranos and choirs. This sets quite a mood for you, however, the music continues day after day, hour after hour, but you soon learn to tune it out.

Our rooms were down below on the west side, right below the dining room and the same level as the gym. I would recommend these rooms because each one opens to ground level with a view of the hills described above. Each room has its own little vegetable garden with real veggies growing i.e. some strawberries, eggplant, tomatos, etc. The access to the outside is through two big solid doors followed by two big French type glass doors. All very pretty and atmospheric. Our room was well appointed with nice furniture, a large bath with double lavatories, a walk in shower with multiple shower heads, a jacuzzi bathub. Lot's of bathroom amenities were provided.

Our stay here was very pleasant and unique. I highly recommend it because it is in a peaceful, bucolic setting with modern facilities otherwise. One bit of advice. We booked directly with the hotel and got a room for 90 euros that included a very well supplied breakfast buffet. Our traveling partners paid the same price but booked through a website and were told that therefore, they would have to pay 15 or so euros for the buffett. Be wise and book direct. It went very smoothly.

Room Tip: try to get one of the rooms like the one I described ground level under the dining room.

“Perfect for a relaxing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

A lovely, comfortable hotel with friendly, helpful staff and great food. The perfect get-away retreat surrounded by olive groves and mountains. Highly recommend a junior suite with its own terrace - well worth paying a bit extra. The pool was perfect and very quiet, and relaxing after a jacuzzi on the lawn was idyllic. You do get moved out on a Saturday night to the sister hotel in town if there's a wedding, but this was well organised, even though the other hotel (Antequerra Golf) was far too busy for our liking.
If you want peace and quiet, away from it all, then this is the place to go.

Room Tip: Try 104 - junior suite with own terrace

“This Hotel is worth a trip to Spain!”

We have stayed in this hotel for just two days and regret we could not stay longer. The hotel is an ancient monastery which has been recently renovated and converted into a hotel, located in an extremely quiet area surrounded by a golf course. You can taste the history of the place enjoying an excellent service at the same time. The town of Antequera is just a few km away. The restaurant is superb, closed by a window with a stunning view on the valley. The food is very good, and the service excellent. I would strongly recommend it.

Room Tip: All rooms are extremely quiet. I would book one overlooking the valley.

“Stunning Location, Superb hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

We stayed at La Magdelena with a group of twelve friends for six days. The rooms and spa facilities were excellent. The rooms were extremely well appointed with excellent complimentaries, robes and slippers. The only downside is that the rooms do not have any tea or coffee facilities as we already knew this most of the group brought travel kettles.
Each evening apart from one we had superb service and food in the stunning panoramic dining room, on the one occassion when the service and food was poor the evening was salvaged by Fredricko who was excellent and even furnished the whole group with complementary cocktails.
We played golf at Antequera and received excellent attention from the professional Karl Adams. The course is not easy but enjoyable and was in good condition. We have played at Antequera golf on four occasions in the last two years and still amazed by the stunning scenery, a word of caution if you play this course is not for walking a buggy is a a must.
Whilst staying this time we visited a national park called Torcal which is a fifteen minute drive from La Magdelena if you take the barrier road outside the hotel for one mile to the mainroad, turn left up to the T junction then turn right and will be marked as Torcal which is a fabulous place to visit.
Breakfast is buffett style on a luxury basis even cavier and champagne if you wish, our very special thanks to Maria our waitress in the mornings she speaks many languages and was a wealth of information for us.
We would most definately recommend staying at this hotel and we ourselves will return again next year.La Magdelena is steeped in history and a beautiful tranquil place.

“A splendid hotel and experience”

I stayed only 1 night at the convento la magdalena with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. It was the perfect choice! A special offer for september meant that our stunning double bedroom, buffet breakfast and spa came to 90 euros for both of us..... which for a 5 star hotel was incredible good value for money.Courteous staff, large, clean and luxurious rooms and bathrooms, a well maintained spa and a stunning breakfast display, I cannot praise this hotel enough. It gave us a chance to experience 5 star accommodation which we normally can't afford! It is quite isolated, so you will need a car to travel to Antequera and there is nothing else around in the immediate vicinity.. but we were quite happy to stay at the hotel and enjoy the spa area and eat at the hotel's restaurant. 10/10 ... !We will return again.
