En route from Morrocco during the Volcano hiatus we found this hotel to be charming. After an intitial reception that left us thinking we had stumbled into a Fawlty Towers episode the hotel was an oasis of peace and comfort. Despite the bus station's proximity you can't hear any noise. The dinner was tasty and good value and they served breakfast early to allow the numerous refugees to eat before catching the 7.30 bus/train combo out of town.

The location of this hotel is its main asset. It is ideal for the train station, just across the road. Its ideal for the bus station, just next door. Its ideal for the port, ten minutes on foot or by taxi from the rank outside its door. The main shopping areas are easily reached within a few minutes.
Apart from that it's something and nothing. The hotel is modern, it's well presented, very clean, bedroom and bathroom proper but it lacks character. It seems dead. The dining room was well presented but there was no-one there, no menus lying around,no-one looking for custom, the bar was lit and apparently open but again no -one there to serve.
Unlike most hotels there was no information other than how to use the telephone in our bedroom.
Needless to say we went out.
However I would recommend this hotel for its location and it is clean and well presented.

After leaving Morocco the Octavia seems to have ticked all the boxes in getting us accustomed to Western life again. A short 15 minute walk from inside the port compound to the hotel. It is opposite the train station and above the bus station, ideal for the independent traveller. For $99 for the one night i thought it was well worth it!!

This hotel is located just across the street from the RENFE railroad station, and next to the coach (bus) station for Algeciras. It is, therefore, the hotel of choice for anyone arriving late by rail or departing on the first train of the day. and particularly for anyone using a bus to get to nearby destinations such as La Linéa (the border crossing into Gibraltar).

The hotel is relatively modern, although the rooms are somewhat old-fashioned, but comfortable. I would not choose this hotel for a long stay, but for an overnight, it is quite acceptable.

The best feature of this hotel is its restaurant. I found the food to be very well prepared, and the service very good, both for dinner and for the buffet breakfast, which is included in the room rate.

My principal criticism of this hotel is that the only English speaker I was able to find was the waiter in the restaurant, the front desk staff being unable to either speak or understand English. This was unfortunate because I had a problem getting on to the internet (allegedly free for hotel guests), and there was no-one able to help me.
