“Should be your first choice in Nazare”

Really a lovely little hotel in a lovely little town. I had originally considered renting a quarto from a local family until I came across this gem in the online reviews. Mar Bravo mixes well the charm of a boutique hotel with the four star fit and finish of a more modern styled hotel. My room was quite spacious compared to some of the other doubles I stayed in during my trip. The hotel restaurant is quite good as well, with high quality continental breakfast included in the price. The location is absolutely perfect, directly across the street from the cliff side edge of the beach and a five minute walk to the funicular that takes you to the high town. Most importantly, the staff is extremely attentive and helpful, with most members speaking at least four languages. It was also easily the single best value for money I found during my two week trip. Traveling in early October, the price was 45 euros per night and I would have paid half again that amount without batting an eye. If you can get this rate, I suggest extending your stay by a couple of days and day tripping to Fatima, Alcobaca and Obidos. All are a short bus ride away and the bus station is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The only thing I would warn fellow travelers who are looking to go out late into the night is that the staff lock the door to the hotel at some point after midnight. But they have a staff member on duty all night, so just look for the buzzer near the main door.

“Perfect for Us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Stayed here two nights; everything was perfect for us. Our very clean and comfortable room faced the square and looked up to the cliffs with the funicular to the district of Sitio. Enjoyed the ocean view from our little balcony, while we sipped some local wine. Breakfasted on cereals, meat, cheese and coffee. They will brew fresh expresso, even doubles on request. Good a/c, elevator and new bathrooms. WiFi was complimentary. On the beach right in front of the hotel, we watched an auction of day's catch of octopus, horseshoe crab, several other sea creatures and some fish brought in by one of those colorful wooden boats. This was at the end of a demonstration of the old fishing traditions. The area is very busy during the day and late into the night. Favorite time was in the morning when the beach is deserted. Mr. Pizza is just off this square, walking from the beach; NY style pizza; English spoken. Our favorite restaurant in Portugal is in Sitio not from from the bullring: O Luis. We had shellfish and rice for two. Big bowl of wonderful seafood.

“Two Nights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

We spent two nights at this hotel. Our room faced the praca and the beach, and it had a balcony. Reasonable price. Plus we borrowed some beach chairs for an afternoon on the beach. Good value and location

“Great views, friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

We chose a room with a 2 balconies - one on the ocean and one on the square. This was a great decision, even though we paid quite a bit extra for our room. The views of the ocean including sunsets were breathtaking, and the people-watching from both balconies was a highlight of our visit to Nazare. We mentioned Rick Steves and paid cash, so received a 10% discount. The hotel staff were friendly and very efficient. 2 small negative things - we got someone else's wake-up call at 5:30 am, and our waiter when we had dinner in the hotel's restaurant was disturbingly rude (though the food was good). I haven't included the latter in my overall rating.

“Great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

The location of this hotel is outstanding – all the rooms have view over the ocean, tall cliffs and Sitio buildings. Beach is just across the street. Rooms are small and very clean. Service is quite good, everyone speaks good English and most of the people we met were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is unspectacular but sufficient and the view for restaurant is great. Parking is located in another hotel about 5-7 minutes work away, and there is couple of 10 minutes parking spots for loading-unloading in front of the hotel. The hotel restaurant is probably the best seafood place in Nazare and one of only two Nazare restaurants mentioned in DK Portugal guide. It is also mentioned in Rick Steves Portugal and online. So, the only two minuses I can think about are room size (especially with roll-in for a third person) and parking.

Room Tip: Upper floors rooms would have better view.
