“Our Favorite B&B in Ireland”

We stopped in at this Farmhouse B&B on our way traveling from Galway to Dublin. We chose it last minute, and phoned for availablitly, waiting to see how far we could get in our travels. This was our only Farmhouse B&B in Ireland, and although I was a little nervous because I had researched all our other stays extensively, this ended up being the prize of our vacation!! Mrs. Maxwell is quite simply the nicest woman in Ireland. Directions were easy--there are signs all along the way from the motorway. She also texted us directions as we neared, which was very helpful. We arrived at 9 p.m. and made to feel so very much at home We had two ensuite rooms that were extremely charming and well decorated, not to mention spotless. Yes, our sheets were even ironed! The children's room was especially spacious. Breakfast was an epic feast! All homemade and served in a large charming dining room. The gounds are so very, peaceful and pleasant, but the real joy of staying here is meeting Mrs. Maxwell. She was so friendly and delightful, talked with my children and made them feel special. She's the kind of person you meet for the first time but feel like you've known forever. Please choose this gem of a place if you are traveling between Dublin and Galway. You won't regret it.

“Old House Lovers' Heaven!”

We can't say enough good things about Woodlands Farm. This old house is totally wonderful. And, Mary and Marie Maxwell are lovely hostesses. They are so kind and concerned to make sure your stay is perfect in every way. The rooms are very nice and clean - our sheets were even ironed! And, there were washcloths. The grounds are enchanting. We thought we were staying in a storybook. If you want a midway overnight between Galway and Dublin, this is the place!

“A Haven after an awful journey”

Excellent place to stay, Mrs Maxwell couldn't do enough for us , provided tea & cakes to revive us after a horrible journey from England.

Welcomed our small dog, gave us run of gardens, and the breakfast the next day was sublime, everything you could want and more.

If we need to drive across to the west again we will definately be stopping again,

Thank you Mrs Maxwell.

  • Liked — Allowed us a very comfortable stop over & to be able to take dog with us.
  • Disliked — Rooms, friendliness of host, breakfast, if fact everything.

“A Must Stay ! ! GREAT PLACE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2008

I have been to Ireland 3 times now. I have stayed in over a dozen BB's there and this was by far the BEST place.

I arrived late by Irish standards, 9pm. It was raining and of course dark. With proper directions and following the signs posted along the roads, I was able to locate her farm house with no problem. She welcomed us in and showed us our room. She quickly fixed us some tea and a light snack.

Yes if you want to go for dinner you need to ride into a nearby town, which is about 8 miles away. This is Ireland, things are not close by. This is a country farm house, not a city loft in Dublin.

We requested a wake up, and sure enough right at 8am she came knocking. Breakfast was by far one of the best and you will not have a need for lunch after one of her breakfast layouts.

They have a sitting room with a piano and a tv and a seperate dinning room. The house is nicely decorated.

Keep in mind, this house is 300 years old. It has all the feeling of old Ireland. Yes there is a musty smell, but like I said it is 300 years old! IT is very clean.

If you are looking for new and fresh stay at the Hilton, but if you ask me, you don't go to Ireland for a Hilton Visit.

I would stay here again and again. Mary is a very sweet lady and will just make you feel right at home.

“Probably wouldn't go back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2008

Mary was a friendly and helpful host. The house itself was incredibly difficult to find however (it took us an hour and a half of driving around). Our room was clean, but the house is musty-smelling. Also, Woodlands Farm is truly in the middle of nowhere. You will have to drive to find a place to eat, etc., and there you will not have a very big selection of places to go.
