“"Will be back for more"”

My husband and I stayed at the Hilamar for one night last weekend and I have to say I couldn't fault it. The room was very comfy, a little bit too warm maybe but the friendly receptionist showed us how to turn down the heat. The showers are heaven! We had dinner in the restaurant that evening followed by a few drinks in the bar by the open fire. We enjoyed the friendly banter of the staff and the locals and will definitely be back for more.

“Wonderful hotel, excellant location... What a find!!!”

I stayed in the Hilamar last Wednesday night and I must say it was an absolute pleasure. I chose the hotel because of its location, just off the motorway midway between Dublin and Galway. I arranged to meet a potential customer for dinner that night and the food and service could not be faulted. The staff were extremely efficient and friendly and the food was delicious and the choice good. After the meal we sat in the bar near the very cosy stove to further discuss business, we were pleasantly surprised when we found that there was complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel, this made discussion very easy. My room was very clean, modern and comfortable containing everything I would expect from a first class hotel. The next morning, the breakfast room was bright and sunny, the breakfast terrific and the staff cheery. I will definitely stay at the Hilamar again and recommend it to my colleagues...

“Lovely , Friendly Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Well I have just seen a couple of reviews of this hotel and I,m wondering if they stayed at the same hotel. I only stayed there one night ie from last Saturday afternoon till Sunday lunch time 14th/15th Jan. I went to the Hilimar with my wife to see my brother before I headed off to Dubai on Monday morning. My brother and some mates were doing a job near Kinnegad and had been staying in the hotel for over a week and had no complaints. On arrival at the hotel there was ample parking on the main street and loads more at the back of the hotel.. We were checked in by a lovely, friendly and helpfull receptionist. The first thing I noticed on walking through the bar area was a very welcome wood buirning stove which was alight and well stocked . Our room was big and comfy with nothing missing at all . After we settled in etc we went to meet my brother and his workmates and some of their wives who had travelled down ( from the wet and windy North ) for the weekend. The stout was flowing and in good order so we decided to eat in the bar area which was quite large. The food was of a high quality and plenty of it so no complaints . The hotel then started to fill up with a wedding party, who provided a buffet and a live band so we hit it lucky as we all had a great night. There was a wee bit of noise heard in the early hours, so the Mrs said and I could not argue with her as I heard nothing. We got up unusually late at 10:30 and thought we had missed breakfast but what a relief it was to see they served till 11:30 . The breakfast was typically Irish - good ! That was it we checked out at 12 for the 3hr drive home . I must say that the hotels location could not be better as it,s right beside the new motorway that crosses from Dublin to the west. We came down what you might call the middle route but went back via Dublin then Belfast and then on the M2 towards Derry and changed gear 3 times until I hit Toomebridge - unreal ..
To sum up the Hilamar we all loved it and would stay there again if the need arose . Oh as for Kinnegad it,s a lovely big village with some lovely pubs and places to eat.. Thank-you Hilamar !

Room Tip: I would think they are all good but if you are worried about noise etc ask if there are any weddings...

“NICE PLACE BUT TYPICAL OF BAGNELL, CUTTING CORNERS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

Was playing golf in Kells and decided to stop off at the Hilamar on my way home, BIG MISTAKE, while i was waiting for my meal i could hear Robert Bagnell openly run down customers for their appearence, language and even their accents, "not what you want to hear from the owner" the food was cold and served on a freezing cold plate and when i complained i was told " i dont get paid enough for this" and walked away. i thought she was gone for a fresh meal so i waited, im still waiting. half an hour later a young man passed by and asked why i hadnt eaten my steak i explained about what happened and he stormed off in a huff. i later found out it was Robert Bagnell junior, SURPRISE SURPRISE. No one came back to me after that so i left a fiver on the table " a lot more than the meal was worth" and left. Mr bagnell needs to take care of his customers and stop bad mouthing then. GOOD POINTS- Lovely clean hotel. BAD POINTS- Badly managed, food a disgrace, and someone needs to tell Bagnell snr and jnr they are no better than the rest of us.

“Would stay there again, not the best place in the world, but not the worst either.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

Stayed on saturday the 20th of March. Nice modern hotel with large rooms. However they really need to put someone on reception, they just have a phone with a number to ring and then you have to wait until somone decides to come out to help you. We stayed for b&b , the breakfast was nice, your normal fri-up. I found the staff nice and friendly, Would stay there again, not the best place in the world, but not the worst either.
