Well I have just seen a couple of reviews of this hotel and I,m wondering if they stayed at the same hotel. I only stayed there one night ie from last Saturday afternoon till Sunday lunch time 14th/15th Jan. I went to the Hilimar with my wife to see my brother before I headed off to Dubai on Monday morning. My brother and some mates were doing a job near Kinnegad and had been staying in the hotel for over a week and had no complaints. On arrival at the hotel there was ample parking on the main street and loads more at the back of the hotel.. We were checked in by a lovely, friendly and helpfull receptionist. The first thing I noticed on walking through the bar area was a very welcome wood buirning stove which was alight and well stocked . Our room was big and comfy with nothing missing at all . After we settled in etc we went to meet my brother and his workmates and some of their wives who had travelled down ( from the wet and windy North ) for the weekend. The stout was flowing and in good order so we decided to eat in the bar area which was quite large. The food was of a high quality and plenty of it so no complaints . The hotel then started to fill up with a wedding party, who provided a buffet and a live band so we hit it lucky as we all had a great night. There was a wee bit of noise heard in the early hours, so the Mrs said and I could not argue with her as I heard nothing. We got up unusually late at 10:30 and thought we had missed breakfast but what a relief it was to see they served till 11:30 . The breakfast was typically Irish - good ! That was it we checked out at 12 for the 3hr drive home . I must say that the hotels location could not be better as it,s right beside the new motorway that crosses from Dublin to the west. We came down what you might call the middle route but went back via Dublin then Belfast and then on the M2 towards Derry and changed gear 3 times until I hit Toomebridge - unreal ..
To sum up the Hilamar we all loved it and would stay there again if the need arose . Oh as for Kinnegad it,s a lovely big village with some lovely pubs and places to eat.. Thank-you Hilamar !
