“Downstairs good, upstairs bad!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The downstairs of the Yeats Country Hotel is a comfortable, relaxing area, refurbished but still quaint. The bedrooms though are in need of modernising! Now, the managers must have taken heed of previous trip advisors reviews as the room was toasty warm, perfect! It was comfortable, spacious and clean. The downside was there was no wifi in the bedrooms, the tv was v old, front panel broken, as was the back of the remote control, and the tv signal was poor at best. There was no safe in the room, nor was there a fridge. Also, to be picky, the hot tap was broken in our room, and only trickled. If the managers could modernise the bedrooms with flatscreen tvs, with good reception, wifi, safe and fridge, they could get the hotel back to the modern and lavish place it was in it's heyday! Please Managers?

Room Tip: If they fix the tap, room 312 is spacious and comfy!

“Picture on website of rooms - VERY deceiving”

We were so looking forward to this 4 day get away, if it wasn't for the Kids Club, we would have left. Where to start....
With the bad. I'm a bed snob. I pick hotels by the pictures of the beds, especially if staying 4 nights... It showed plush looking duvets, pillows stacked high. Ha, what a laugh. You could feel the bed springs, there was NO matress protector (ewe) and the sheet against the matress wasn't even fitted so sleeping with a daughter who moves around, you wake up on the matress (ewe ewe), plus she wet the bed. Sorry! We don't use bedspreads that look like they haven't been washed, so we were cold.
If they could up-date the beds and bedding, can even forget about the bathrooms, they would have rated 5. 4 nights in those beds was too much. A mini-bar fridge would have been nice too as you are so far from everything and there are no vending machines in the hotel.
And the iron.... if you are on the first floor, it is UNDER a stair well attached to the wall, where an exit door doesn't shut (was FREEZING out), on a timer looking 100 years old. That was my worst ironing experience ever.
But, there is alot of good!
Friendly staff; food was good, nothing special; common area cozy; they let us have a space heater to help heat the freezing room; the family room size is very good; the Rec Center needs an overhaul too, but was fine.
2 parts that made this whole thing worth while, the Kids Club. They were awesome. They entertained, took the kids swimming, feed them, entertained them.
If it wasn't for the kids club...
The other was the Spa. I have my best massage and Indian head massage in Ireland. It was a lovely much needed retreat 2 floors up from our dump of a room.

Sure we got a good deal, but come on, the hotel was full (New Year's), I really hope they up-date the rooms, it seems like a no brainer...

Room Tip: Ask for the up-dated room they show on their website. It's got to be there somewhere. Other ro...

“Shocking is all i can say!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I stayed here on New Year's Eve (and in fairness, i expected it to be busy!) but i didn't expect the constant train of screaming kids running round the foyer. The staff seemed not to hear it! The heating wasn't on AT ALL throughout my stay, and i was greeted with a small noisy fan on full blast in my room. Definitely unacceptable in December!! The toilet seat wobbled precariously, and the bathroom had no soaps/shampoos etc.
The wallpaper on the staircase was mouldy and the hallways smelled really musty. Unpleasant...
On the plus side, it had a lovely cosy foyer with gorgeous fires and armchairs. My advice??? Don't venture any further than this!

Room Tip: A room with a view would soften the blow..

Dear Lauraf,
Thank you for taking time to post your review. Firstly I would like to thank you for your positive comments regarding our lounge area and open fires. We were delighted to do some renovation works here in 2011 and have turned our a huge success.

During family holidays ie. Easter, July & August, Halloween, Post Christmas and New Years we are delighted to offer guests our go!kids! Childrens entertainment programme free of charge to our guests. We also have our go!kids! Creche for under 4's. This means that during these times we are extremely busy with families and lots of young children. We pride ourselves in offering this service which runs up until 10.00 pm each evening. Unfortunately after this time it is up to the parents to enterain/supervise their children. However we are looking into extending the availability of our playroom for an extra hour in the evenings which we hope will help.

I take on board your comment regarding the heat and we are currently undertaking a review and part of an over look at energy efficiency within the hotel.

In regards to the bathroom, they have all been checked and the necessary maintenance carried out and I appreciate you mentioning this. We have soap/shampoo/body wash dispencers in all our bedrooms.

If you would like to email me privately I can discuss your review with you further.
Kindest Regards,
Fiona

“Relaxing family break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed at new year and found this a very family friendly hotel. Having said that I can understand that the numbers of kids might have made it unpleasant for couples on their own. Not the smartest hotel it is true but has something you can't buy - a truly relaxed atmosphere that means you can let go and recharge. Would definitely go back.

Hi everybody, If i can be any help then here is my advice. Please do not upset urself by staying at this hotel. We booked in on the 31st dec for 2 nights and 1 evening meal. We were told a warm welcome and log fires were awaiying for us. Well none of that was true. No LOG FIRES AND A COLDER WELCOME was what we got. We were put on the 4 floor. It was warmer outside no jokeing. Evening meal was very poor. over run with kids, allowed in the bar, even babies in buggys after 12am. aw now come on. They were warmer in their buggys than in their cots. We checked out next day and refused to pay. The Duty Manager WAS SO RUDE. I have his name if anybody needs it. We checked into the Glass House in sligo town where we were met with Warmth and Luxury. The poor staff in Yeats Hotel i would have to say i was sorry for them under a Manager like that they will never get a job if they say they worked there
