Stayed in room 6 in Herons Cove for 2 nights on 28th & 29th May 2010, and had a 5* time. In truth Herons Cove isn't in Rossnowlagh. It is on the road between Rossnowlagh and Ballyshannon. If you plan on going out to the pub and walking back, or spending the day running in and out between the hotel and the beach, then Herons Cove isn't the place for you. According to the sign outside Herons Cove it is 6km from Rossnowlagh.
However Rossnowlagh isn't exactly a massive centre of nightlife anyway. The beach is excellent and as long as you don't mind a car ride to and from it, Herons Cove has plenty to recommend it.
The room was bright, modern and spacious, and the staff were warm, courteous, friendly and helpful. There was a glass shelf above the toilet, and as I was leaving on the Friday night I smashed it with my head whilst lifting the toilet seat. The staff couldn't have been better when we told them, telling us to go on out and they would sort it our, and by the time we arrived back to the room the glass had been cleared and everything put right.
The food is also excellent. On the Saturday night my partner and I shared an excellent meal. I had the ribs, followed by a Sirloin Steak, and my partner had a Caesar salad, followed by seafood taglitelli. The ribs and steak were both cooked perfectly, and my partners meals were equally as good. the tagliagtelli in particular had plenty of fish, and the portion sizes certainly were excellent.
But for the bar, I doubt we would have left Herons Cove in the evenings. They are correct in saying it is a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel. The bar is a bit limited, and the owners should really consider adding one (there seems to be room on the ground floor at the opposite end of the building from the restaurant). Reception were more than happy to organise taxis, and the fare to Ballyshannon is €8, and I can recommend Dicey Rileys or Seán Óg's as being nice pubs.
