“Charming Staff - Hung up the phone on me!”

This morning, I rang the Oriel House Hotel to enquire about a room for 2 nights over 30/31st January 2012. I was immediately given a price of €60 with breakfast - I had not even had a chance to mention hat I had collected voucher from the Irish Sun that enabled me to a discount.

I then mention that I had the "Superstays vouchers" from The Sun. "Oh, er, ah," came the reply. "I will have to go & check, there are only so many of those I can accept". So off she goes to check whilst I was placed on hold. I was on hold hold for a couple of minutes whenever I suddenly heard "click". They had hung up! I telephoned back, to be told there were no rooms.

Charming.

“Nice Hotel but a shame about the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I have stayed in the Oriel House Hotel 3 times. The hotel itself is a lovely building with the original house and the Hotel extension being very attractive. Two of the rooms I sated in were very nice, 251 and one on the second floor to the right of reception were very nice with lots of space, big bathroom and nice toiletries. Rooms are serviced every day to a lovely standard. There is a lovely leisure centre with a fuly equiped gym, spa and a very good pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The reason I am saying my stay there is average is the food is awful. The menu is not changed and what is on it is not inspiring and not even alright pub grub. Even the salads are not nice. Breakfast is adequate but again if you ask for anything different to what is served it really doesnt have much thought or effort put into it. It is a real pitty as it is such an attractive building with everything else going for it but unfortunatey as I stay the ful time in the hotel when i visit it is really disappointing to think you dont want to eat and would rather starve than eat in the hotel. It is close to Ballincollig town so you can visit a very nice italian restaurant there and that is about it in the town unless you venture in as far as cork city. The hotel is good for couples & families and conferences. Just provide your own catering.

Room Tip: If you dont get a nice room ask for an upgrade the final room i went into i asked for this as it was...

“Clean and comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Nice hotel - very clean. Effecient staff, good sized rooms - food in the Powder Keg is decent and it was all hassle free. Facilities for everyone, pool and a spa. Great hotel to have in Ballincollig.
