“Brilliant location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

This is a lovely hotel, with a faboulous view, the decor was not my choice but it was clean, warm and comfortable. The owners were very helpful regarding were we should and shouldn't go due to the amount of snow that had fallen, for which we were very grateful, as we were on a self drive holiday.
The food is very nice here and we tended to eat hear after a good day out sightseeing as food can be difficult to track down in the wintertime in Iceland when things are out of season.

“A Gem of a Hotel Off-Season”

Without a doubt, one of the best places we stayed on our trip. When we arrived, one of the owners was at the front desk and she was incredibly helpful in both making our stay comfortable and in giving advice about what we could see and do during the limited daylight hours. Not only were her suggestions spot on, but she even gave us a map of the area and wrote notes about when certain things closed for the day. The room itself was gorgeous and well furnished, and the view was beautiful even in the winter. The only complaint is that the TV was a bit old a the remote didn't work properly, but it didn't matter since we weren't really going to watch TV anyway. In the morning, breakfast was delicious and there were lots of tasty things to chose from. When we left, the owner gave us advice on where to get gas and explained how to find one of the large waterfalls between Lake Myvatn and our next destination.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms on the top floor have vaulted ceilings and large windows with a pretty view.

“Basic But Cozy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

Our hotel room was basic but it good enough for 1 night stay and it was cozy with a nice view of the lake. The staff was very friendly and helped us track the Northern Lights and also helped us find our if our whale watching trip was still going out the next morning when we were checking out. The dinner at the hotel restaurant was decent and since we were honeymooners they comped our bottle of wine at check out which was very sweet of them.

“Fantastic family run hotel in a location that can only be described as a winter wonderland.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We were a little bit concerned by negative reviews, however after staying here i can only wonder if these reviews were of a different place. The owners were so incredibly friendly, on two occasions they personally took us on excursions (a day trip to the village, bird museum and local craft shop and an evening visit to the nature baths). We were made to feel totally relaxed and at home. Couple this with the gorgeous natural scenary and you have a recipe for a return trip. Despite the 20+ hour flight from australia, we will definitely come back. The chef should also get a mention: great local cuisine, we wereincredibly impressed.

Easy driving distance to many amazing sites.

“Best Hotel on our 10 day trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

This hotel is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We stayed in 5 different hotels during our journey around Iceland. This was without question the best! Beautiful furniture, lovely updated bathrooms, all the amenities you could ask for. We ate dinner in the hotel and we were extremely pleased with our meals. There is a souvenir shop near the hotel that was closed, but when we asked the hotel receptionist, he gladly opened it for us. We had snowy/wintry weather during our stay so we did not take advantage of all the hiking around nearby Lake Myvatn. We got out and explored a little and can only imagine how awesome this place would be on a Good weather day. The hotel breakfast was good too (not as good as dinner though). I would love to come back here.
