“Best hotel in Iceland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

We normally choose hotels based on reviews, but in this case we were just driving around looking for a place to stay, and happened to pass by Hotel Reynihlid. The hotel looked decent, and they quoted us a good price so we decided to give it a go.

It turned out to be the best hotel we stayed in during our trip through Iceland, and like some other reviewers, we also prolonged our stay.

The rooms are a bit dull, but nevertheless comfortable and clean. To get WI-FI reception, I had to sit next to the door but then it worked.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home. Breakfast was way better than any other Icelandic breakfast we have come across, with a good selection of hot and cold foods, including fish. Dinner was pricey but excellent. The hotel makes an excellent base to explore the Myvatn region, with all the main sights close by.

I don't think I will ever go back to Iceland, but if I would, I would stay here again. It's a well-run friendly hotel, and meets my expectations of a proper hotel.

“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

The hotel is in a good location near the lake. The room was clean and comfortable, although nothing special. We had been expecting a chilly welcome, after reading our Lonely Planet guide, but the receptionist was friendly and gave us tips and information about the local area. The breakfast was fine.

“Excellent hotel, friendly staff, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

The hotel is located on the north-east corner of the Myvatn lake, on the edge of the small town. We stayed here in the shoulder season (early September) and were offered a room including a dinner for a very fair price. We initially wanted to stay only one night, but were so pleased with the hotel that we prolonged our stay. The rooms are not too big, but are comfortable and clean and come with free wifi (though reception is not always good). The shower, provided by warm water from a well, smells of sulphur, but this is the case in most of Iceland. The staff of the hotel (I think it's a family-run hotel) are very friendly and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was absolutely delicious and the breakfast buffet offered a huge variety of food, including some very tasty Icelandic options. Definitely the best hotel we stayed at in Iceland. Highly recommended.

“A very nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Spent 2 nights at the hotel while driving the ring road around Iceland. This was a very nice hotel. The rooms were large and well appointed. A very comfortable stay. The breakfast was very good and the front desk people were very pleasant and accomodating. We will definitely stay here again.

“A comfortable hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

During a journey in Iceland, we experimented with hotels, guesthouses, holidays Farms and B&B (price ca. 150 EUR per room). For this price, Icelandic accommodations generally have all you want (private bath and toilet, soap, towel, good bedding (twin beds), warm eiderdown, heated rooms, buffet breakfast, …) but are often simple (few or no decoration) and small. If curtains were always present, some are too short to efficiently make the room dark. But this doesn’t bother us.
Although being a good hotel per se, the price is more than our average). The hotel is comfortable, although the rooms are not very more to offer than elsewhere. The buffet breakfast is enjoyable. The dinner restaurant is very expensive. You had rather to go to the adjoining Gamli Baerinn (for a simple meal) or to the Reykjahlid restaurant (5 min walk).
