We stayed here two years ago and loved it! We decided, despite it being one hours drive from CDG, to stay here on our last night in France having toured for five days in Bourgogne.
St Jean Aux bois itself seems to be more "gentrified" than previously; although still a very pretty village. We surmised, since many well-maintained properties were locked and shuttered, perhaps it has become a weekend retreat for Parisiennes.
Anyway, the actual room was fine, fairly recently redecorated. We got no help with our luggage because the person who checked us in had "lung problems" OK not a problem! We had booked to dine in the restaurant with memories of previous beautiful food and the usual groaning cheese trolley! We selected from the 49 Euro "Menu" Food was Ok but when cheese arrived the trolley bore one single round of very hard cheese and we were each served a sliver; horrible!
We had decided to breakfast at 7.30am the next morning (flight to catch!) Nowhere in the room was there any mention of breakfast hours. We went down at 7am to check, to find everything downstairs locked and dark. So, we thought, try again at 7.30! Again .... no signs of life. we brought our luggage down and, at 7.40am a young man appeared to assure us that breakfast was at 7.30! No tables set, no actvity or lights/sounds from kitchen. Indeed, it seems this young man was the sole employee in the hotel at that time. A young woman arrived soon after, of course we passed on breakfast, checked out and began our drive ...again, with no warmth or offers of help with luggage etc. And, yes, you are right! Despite the beautiful setting and relative proximity to CDG, we will NEVER go there again!
