The main problem with my room was that it is built into the eaves of the roof and this meant only Velox type rooflights illuminate the room. There are blind on the rooflights but if the rooflight is opened daylight floods in! The bath/shower is built under the eaves so it is impossible to shower, only to spray water at ones self. It is also not possible with ease to turn in the bath. I also cut my head badly by hitting it on a low hanging light in the sitting area.
The staff in the restaurant were arrogant and had little comprehension of either Engish or French! The food itself was quite good even though what I received was not actually ordered. Only one cheese was offered which did not appeal.
Overall a poor place and I will not stay again,

I agree completely with most of the recent reviews of this place, the restaurant was absolutely amazing, the best food that we had eaten on our road trip through france. I would happily pay double the amount that we did for supper.
This being the end of our honeymoon we opted to splash out and stay in the suite, it was a really nice room, very comfortable with good shower- however the walls are a little thin! We had no problem getting to sleep as the village is very quiet and very picturesque, however we were woken the next morning by someone having a shower next door! This can be forgiven though as it is an old building with beautiful features etc and i'm sure there is not a great deal that can be done about the thinness of the walls!
We would jump at the chance to stay here again, the food was superb, the accom comfortable and the village itself is very pretty and well worth a walk around.

The real secret of this Auberge is the restaurant. Michelin star quality without the mark-up.

The hotel itself is a lovely, well restored old row of cottages. Lots of wooden beans everywhere and a nice cost atmosphere. The room was comfortable, not large, but nicely decorated in a rustic style.

The restaurant is superb. This is why you should stay here. A small menu, but everything on it is beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and fabulously combined. I don't see this quality for this price (Eur 49 per head).

The hotel is located In a small hamlet. Dreamily quiet. Surrounded by woods.

We booked on advice of the Times 2010 top 100 hotel in Europe. The hotel is situated in the picturesque, tiny village of St Jean aux Bois in Picardy which is one of the most beautiful parts of France and only 2 hours from Calais so the perfect stop over either heading to or from the UK. Although only 2 star rating the Augberge has been thoughtfully and beautifully designed both inside and out. Staff were helpful and friendly and the restaurant was excellent. All in all a wonderful one night stay and we hope to go again in the future.
