“BED BUGS!!!! FILTHY!!!!!”

My husband and I are senior citizens. We have stayed at the Joy since our honeymoon many years ago. We decided to return to Eureka for our recent honeymoon and found the motel had new owners. The quality was certainly NOT what we had remembered. The room was damp and moldy. The floors had not been properly cleaned and there were hairs in the bed as if the linens were not changed. The housekeeper told us they DO NOT routinely wash the comforters. Last but not least when we returned to our home in kansas City my husband and I found a dozen or so small bites on our legs. The bites turned out to be from bed bugs we had picked up from staying at this FILTHY establishment. We will not recommend the Joy to anyone else.

“They have real keys”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

First of all, let me disclaim any affiliation with the motel. I am just a satisfied cutomer.

I have spent several days here each August for ten out of the last twelve years, and keep coming back. Some people don't want anything but a new motel, and they can find plenty of them wherever they go. I enjoy retro style in many things (living in an antique house and driving antique cars), so appreciate the atmosphere here.

There is new ownership this year, and the rooms are noticeably cleaner, and I appreciated the hardwood floor (rather than the aging carpet). Didn't get a chance to try the pancakes. Swimming pool was great as ever.

This year Joy had their own WiFi for the first time. And the thing I like best--they give you real metal keys. (I just despise those plastic key-cards used almost everywhere else.)

“I will stay at the joy motel everytime I visit Eureka Springs.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

I enjoyed staying at the Joy Motel. It was a great weekend. We got there and checked in. We checked out 3 rooms and everyone of them was clean and cozy. The owner explained the rate charges to us thoroughly. The breakfast was wonderful. They cook pancakes fresh for their guests, with three different choices of pancakes to choose from and serve tang and coffee. I don't think the pool is as murky as the other reviews claim it to be. We swam in it all day and had a great time. The owners are very knowledgable about the towns history and very helpful. We loved the retro style the place had and there was new carpet in all of the 3 rooms we rented. I enjoyed my stay and know my friends did as well. If you are looking for a place that has retro charm and laid back atmosphere this is your place. If not there are many other places to chose from I suppose. But from now on this is where I will be staying when I visit Eureka Springs.

“Tickled to Death”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

I was hesitant to stay here because of some lousy reviews but the place looked so cute that I could not resist.Basically this is and old motel that hes been restored but has kept it's retro look.I stayed in the Grateful dead room and loved it.The pool used to be the city pool.At night they had a camp fire and there was a couple of bands that were playing in the Blue Grass festival that were also staying there so they too were at the fire pit and they played for us. In the morning we had blueberry pancakes. The owners were there and they were so so nice.It seems to me that if 9 out of 10 people like a place,The 1 that has a gripe is the one that will do a negative review and the happy ones will never say anything. That is why I felt that I had to write a good review.I really like this place so much that my girlfriend and me were tickled to death.

“Joy Motel is comfortable and pleasant.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

We had a good weekend visit. Proprieters very welcoming and helpful. They checked the status of the room before we moved in. Quiet and peaceful. Good pancakes and enjoyed talking to other guests at breakfast. It is old, but clean and a good value. Great location. Next to trolley stop.
