We had a very enjoyable stay with our 5 year old son, enjoying the aristocratic surroundings and food, yet tempered by a familial atmosphere, surrounded by opportunity for outdoor pursuits.
The formal French restaurant is the beating heart of this chateau with a selection of traditional dishes and wine at fair prices. The the rooms are elegant and spacious with modern bathrooms. It is run by a family and this is reflected in the general friendliness of the service.
With countryside walks all around, an equitation centre in the next field and bouyant wild-life all around it is a place ideal for winding down or concentrating, yet offering enough within walking distance to occupy a youngster.
There are ponies to pat within walking distance, horse riders on all sides, forest walks and Gisors with its Templar Knights castle and outdoors adventure centres a short drive away.
It lacks a drawing room or bar that can be used by guests between set meals and service is also a bit set. Arrangements for horse-riding and adventure sports dont appear to be formalised in the low season.
For a foreigner like me it was like stepping into a French world, but with discrete modernities and child-friendliness when you need them.
We will be back.
