If you look in the dictionary, "rapee" means "threadbare or worn out", and at one level, that is partly true. The place would benefit from some investment and tasteful modernisation. It would then feel justified in charging at least twice as much as it does now, but would risk losing some of its charm and character. The photographs give a fair impression - this is something unusual, and certainly not your typical Logis.
Then there is the problem of finding it! Admittedly, we arrived in the dark after a long drive - initially encouraged by a clear signpost in the middle of nearby Gisors. Our SatNav was however rather misled by the postal address, and it was only by luck that we spotted some last minute homemade signs, and eventually found our destination. Our late arrival was our own fault, but we had taken the precaution of ringing up the hotel to inform them, and were met with warm reassurance that a late arrival would not be a problem. In the event it was after 9pm before we arrived for dinner, but contrary to expectations, we were accommodated, and indeed still made to feel welcome.
Dinner was excellent, beautifully served in very baronial surroundings. The breakfast order was taken before we left the dinner table, such is their system.
Bedrooms were high-ceilinged and vast - perhaps past their original splendour, but clean and comfortable. We regretted not having longer to check out the hotel's facilities the next morning, but the location is quite exceptional - rural tranquility as far as the eye can see.
If you are looking for somerthing quiet and different, not too far from Paris and not at silly prices, then this might be worth considering. Leave plenty of time for the last 3 miles of your journey though!
