When you hear the word chateau it evokes the sound of luxury. At least, to me it does. We had stayed in chateaus twice before in France and both were quite opulent. Chateau de Flammerans is not.
Quite simply, we had a very unpleasant stay.
We stayed for two evenings... (two, too many) and we only saw the owner Guy and his son. Guy was very aloof. When we first arrived, he gave us a short tour of the "spa" and "hot tub" that you could use for an additional charge. It wasn't clean or inviting. The room itself however, was spacious and clean. The bathroom had a hand held shower... not wall mounted so it was difficult to wash your hair when one hand had to hold on to the sprayer itself. The floors were extremely creaky and the walls were quite thin. We were the only guests and one evening we couldn't help but hear a very loud and long argument. It just created a knot in your stomach. Very unprofessional.
We had NO HELP with our luggage. There are two very long staircases to negotiate to get your room. My husband had just had elbow surgery a few weeks prior so he could only use his left arm. He had to make multiple trips while Guy just looked on.
We took a walk around the grounds... and it did seem as one reviewer described, more farm like. Finding the chateau from the main road was easy due to GPS but if you don't have GPS you're in trouble. It is well off the main roads.
Overall, this B&B was lacking in all areas. Even though we stayed to ourselves, we truly felt unwelcome and most uncomfortable. I cannot get over the amount of positive reviews this B&B has. I truly do not know where they stayed. I can say, this is my second review. I gather my first review, although originally posted was deleted because I assume it was too harsh. Perhaps, that is where many reviews end up.... in the trash.
