“Unwelcoming”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

When you hear the word chateau it evokes the sound of luxury. At least, to me it does. We had stayed in chateaus twice before in France and both were quite opulent. Chateau de Flammerans is not.

Quite simply, we had a very unpleasant stay.

We stayed for two evenings... (two, too many) and we only saw the owner Guy and his son. Guy was very aloof. When we first arrived, he gave us a short tour of the "spa" and "hot tub" that you could use for an additional charge. It wasn't clean or inviting. The room itself however, was spacious and clean. The bathroom had a hand held shower... not wall mounted so it was difficult to wash your hair when one hand had to hold on to the sprayer itself. The floors were extremely creaky and the walls were quite thin. We were the only guests and one evening we couldn't help but hear a very loud and long argument. It just created a knot in your stomach. Very unprofessional.

We had NO HELP with our luggage. There are two very long staircases to negotiate to get your room. My husband had just had elbow surgery a few weeks prior so he could only use his left arm. He had to make multiple trips while Guy just looked on.

We took a walk around the grounds... and it did seem as one reviewer described, more farm like. Finding the chateau from the main road was easy due to GPS but if you don't have GPS you're in trouble. It is well off the main roads.

Overall, this B&B was lacking in all areas. Even though we stayed to ourselves, we truly felt unwelcome and most uncomfortable. I cannot get over the amount of positive reviews this B&B has. I truly do not know where they stayed. I can say, this is my second review. I gather my first review, although originally posted was deleted because I assume it was too harsh. Perhaps, that is where many reviews end up.... in the trash.

A bed and breakfast, but the owner is a chef and dinner is available. Stopped by for a few days (on our way to Switzerland). Beautiful and unexpected -gorgeous rooms, great food. We hope to get back someday!

“Wonderful Place”

Stayed here overnight in July 2011 on a return trip from the south of France. Found it in Sawday's guide and we were not disappointed.
The room was well appointed and had a lovely large bathroom with plenty of good quality towels, bathrobes and smelly ointments for my wife! The room itself had been well decorated and in keeping with the rest of the chateau, including an enormous bed.
Both dinner and breakfast were excellent - Guy is a great cook and a warm, hospitable host. The family runs the hotel with a little help from a few staff, all of whom are friendly and charming.
The chateau is stunning and the gardens wonderful to walk through. The pool is very pretty although we didn't use it due to the awful wet weather.
Met some lovely guests who were staying there with whom we plan to stay in touch.
All together, a great place that we will be returning to as soon as possible.

“Magnificent and Friendly”

We look forward to coming back and spending more time exploring the area and enjoying this property. My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed here for one night. We found the rooms to be very comfortable and clean. The hosts were absolutely terrific even finding a Doctor for my husband and I on a Saturday. The property is wonderful and the spa and pool facilities were in excellent shape.

“Quite perfect B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

I had read good reviews for the Chateau and then read some of the negative comments on Trip Advisor. Wev stayed for one night at the Chateau as a stopover on our way down to Provence. It was quite delightful. The bedroom suite was huge and very comfortable. We didnt eat dinner but found excellent choice in the nearvy Auxonne. The owners were really pleasant, helpful and courteous. It is not like a hotel where they are at your beck and call all the time. Rather you are staying in their home! Of course it helps if you speak French - you are after all in France. As for the dog, yes he's huge but an absolute babe- and the donkey just made our stay.
