“Just avoid it”

I was sent there from a tour operator in Portugal and stayed from 26/12 until 1/01. First we were located in a fourth floor with no elevator (actually there's one, but it seems not to be working for ages!!). Imagine what it is to climb narrow stairs in snowboard or ski boots (and equipment)... Then, the TV wasn't working, and neither did the central heating system. Hot water was only available when there wasn't many people trying to take a bath. Otherwise there was no water at all.
After two nights we were moved to the second floor. The TV and the central heating were ok, but there was no locker available, so we had to keep our gear at the reception, sometimes waiting for someone to come with the key.
Hot water was a little more abundant on the first day, but got worse on the following.
On the 1st January, after returning from the slopes, and waiting 4 hours to take a bath, I asked Mr. Paulo, what was I supposed to do. He, in a very unpolite way, told me that If I was not satisfied, I could leave, which we did, immediately.
On the following day we issued a complaint on the tourism office at Pas de La Casa.

It's unbelievable that the authorities allow this kind of places to be open an deceive tourists.

“I would return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

It's not a fancy hotel, it's a 2 star hotel, very close to the tracks.
It's there for the snow purpose, and you couldn't expect more.
Because it's a middle price hotel it take lots of youth people, it might mean noise at night.
We always took our dinners at the hotel, and they were 5 stars with a excellent excellent food, a really must try even if you're not staying at the hotel.
And the staff were very very nice and gentle.

“Best staff ever...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2009

Have just returned from a weeks skiing at the Chez Paulo.

On arrival at the hotel our first impressions were that the accomodation was basic but clean but it was the staff and the restaurant which really impressed us.

We travelled in a group of eight so we were quite a lively bunch, but the staff could not do enough for us, they were super welcoming and hospitable. The restaurant gets really busy with Portuguese non residents and fills up quickly but has a great atmosphere.

The food is simple and comforting and perfect after a day on the slopes, we often planned to eat out in one of Pas' many restaurants but because the hospitality and the staff were so fantastic there was really no need.

Paulo, Roberto and the rest of the staff made our stay in Andorra a real pleasure and we will definately be returning in the future.

Thank You so much guys

Andrea Brady

“A decent hotel with a few grumbles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2009

We stayed at the hotel from the 28th Dec 08 till 4th Jan 09. It was our first visit to Andorra and the skiing was great for all abilities but mainly the intermediate skiers and borders.

The Hotel. The staff are superb. Very friendly indeed and very helpful. Generally the rooms are OK. As you would expect from any ski hotel within this price range . The rooms are basic but clean. All you need really. Ha ha and the walls really are like paper, but after a hard day on the slopes and a bottle of wine. Who cares?

The food on the whole is on the better side of average (3 courses usually includine Meat, Fish and a vege option).

The main negative we found is that the hotel is also a popular restaurant used by the general public (Mainly the Spanish and French). This, I suppose is good, but the half board option serves food at a lower quality than the paying visitors. So we felt a little left out I suppose. The hotel guests are served dinner between 7 aand 9. Many of us felt that we were ushered out of the restaurant at 9 as the tables are reserved by other people.

The above would not be so bad if there was a lounge to go to chill out. There is a bar but it is impossible to use in the evening. Furthermore, although the bar is supposed to be open between 4 and 6 for coffee etc. The staff were slightly reluctant to serve us as they were preparing the tables for the evening.

If you are the type of person who just needs a bed and decent food then this is the place for you. But if you are part of a group or a family and want somewhere to sit together and chill out together in the evening instead of going out, then the Chez Paulo may not be ideal.

Oh an one last thing. Ski lockers are available in the hotel but the slopes are a 150m walk up the hill. We booked a locker on the slopes. 20 Euros for the week. A little expensive I know but well worth it.

Thanks for reading our review.

“Top value for money, great location. Great staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2008

Just returned from the Chez Paulo. I really enjoyed my stay here, although at first I was a little disappointed with the look of the place (is pretty basic, and the lift wasn't working), I was quickly won over by the staff (they would rush to grab my snowbaord or bag upstairs for me) and the food choices in the evening.
You know your hotel has a great restaurant when you have to push past locals que-ing for a table! Oh, and they plop 2 different types of shnapps on your table after dessert - gratis!

Cant really add to what others have commented about the great location. What stopped me giving a '5 star' review was the thin walls. Take ear plugs! - only gripe throughout the whole fanstastic week.
