“One of the best i've stayed in”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2010

There are quite a few negative reviews here which I don't fully understand, unless it was there first trip out and haven't stayed anywhere in a resort before. (To those moaning about not having a kettle - i've never stayed anywhere in a resoirt with a kettle, it's what a pan and the hob are for).

In over 10 years of skiing and boarding, this is the second best place i've stayed!

For the price, it's an absolute bargain. I've now stayed in 4 different hotels in Pas and this is by far and above the best by a country mile.

The downsides -
The Spa was rubbish. 7 Euros for the day, but nothing worked. The Hot Tub/Jacuzzi was luke warm. The steam room was out of order, and the Sauna was no hotter than the rooms if you cranked the heat up the max.
The location isn't great for getting to the slopes. It's a 5 minute walk up or down to the lift, I don't see this as an issue, but i'm struggling to think of downsides. On the flip side to this, you are a minute away from most of the night life! Awesome!
The free Wi-Fi can't be received in the rooms, you have to go to reception/the bar/or downstairs to the "social area".
The ski lockers are for ski's, no way you can fit more than one snowboard in there. Not an issue for us as we left them in our bathroom and did a quick tune up every morning.

Good points -
Spacious rooms compared to anything else i've stayed in. Plenty of room for 4. One double bed and two single (the double is in a seperate room).
Massive bathroom, with heated floors and constant hot water (a very refreshing change from everywhere else i've stayed).
Great friendly service, all the staff except one old cigar smoking man were brilliant.
Whilst a walk to the slopes isn't a stones throw away, all the good night life is - as is the perla negra, amazing food and good guys in there.
Rooms cleaned everyday with new sheets - and the beds were surprisingly comfortable.

Someone else here moaned about there being one english channel, so whilst I don't usually touch the tv whilst on holiday, I thought i'd have a look. We found 3. And since you're in a different country, what did you expect, a full sky package!?

“Average....”

Basic place but very clean. Furniture/decor are very dated but it had all you needed apart from a kettle!! Slopes are a 5-10 minute slight uphill walk away. Skiing is very good for beginners/intermediates. Restaurants/nightlife was ok. Avoid the Italian restaurant linked to the Hotel at all costs!!!

“Not a 4 star hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2009

We spent four nights in Aparthotel Alaska and certainly doesn't deserve the 4 stars ranking. The room, although very clean, is just too tiny and through the window you can see... the mountains? oh,no! just a wall! We couldn't even know what was the weather like in the morning! Apart from that, the room temperature is too hot, there's no way to get cold water (always a bit warm) and in general things tend to not work properly.
The lift works awfully and couldn't be called from some floors.
But the worst part of all was the parking: probably the worst and most uncomfortable we have ever met: you need to solve mathematical equations to get a regular size car in there (if you have a big car, you would better avoid it). Since this was quite annoying, there's one bigger issue with the parking: organization is absolutely inexistent!!! We were assigned a parking number when we arrived, but everytime we took the car, we had our parking space reassigned, which didn't seem very proffessional. The parking assignment is so messy that we had to call reception everytime we came back to the garage because a car was blocking the path.
As you may have guessed, we won't be staying again in the Alaska, and if you want to spend a good time skiing in Pas de la Casa, we recommend you to stay anywhere else.

“Spacious, Clean and Helpful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2009

stayed in the Alsaka 11th - 18th January 2009 and had a great time. The snow and weather was great, the apartments are big and spacious. Only one english channel on TV, and kitchen limited to a microwave and two electric rings - which limits 'cooking' somewhat. The cards for room, lockers and safe were a bit of a nighmare and kept failing to work, but hotel staff were very good and helpful, and always cheery. its only a short 2 minute walk to the slopes, and at the end of the day if you ski to Les Olympiads bar and walk home from there - you walk down hill both ways. nice and quiet hotel, but close to everything, pool table and small bar good for teenagers, didn't get to the spa, but it is 10 euro per session. lockers are free, and safe is 5 euro deposit which you get back. rooms were clean and cleaned regular, and you got kitchen essentials for washing up etc. bathroom was nice and big with lots of towels, and a bath / shower ... good after a long day - always hot water, and even a bidet ! have nothing negative to say, we enjoyed it, and it was a good 3* self catering apartment for what we paid. We were surprised at the food and drink prices in the town, on the slope about 4.5 - 5 euro for a pint, and in town 3.5-4.5 euro !!! shop around for food, we went local most nights, and found out on the last night that another area of town had much cheaper meals as there was more competition ! it' a long journey, with a 3 hour transfer from Toulous, up windy mountain roads - and if you stop at the services half way - don't buy food from the burger van outside - awful.

  • Liked — cheap, big rooms, close to slopes
  • Disliked — limited kitchen, messing with key cards

“Good apartments.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 February 2008

The overall impression of the Alaska was very good. We have stayed in several in Pas and I would stay here again. Cleanliness was trully excellent- the rooms are cleaned on a daily basis and the Bathroom in particular was new and spotless. Clean towels daily. The kitchen was as expected - only two rings and a microwave and fridge, this however, was adequate and fit for purpose. The position was great. The only down side was the beds- we had an apartment for three- the double bed was a sofabed which was OK but not as comfortable as a standard bed, and the 3rd bed was a camp bed- not great. Also there was no natural light in the room, but to be fair you are generally only sleeping in the room after skiing- so not too much of a problem.Overall great value for money and no complaints.
