“A very good holiday”

Like most people i read the old reviews on this hotel and i was a little worried before we set off BUT when we arrived everything changed. The hotel is good, clean and VERY close to the slopes and bars.
The breakfast is a continental one which had everything you would expect. The evening meal was next door at Marsels which was very good. A choice of 3 different starters, 3 different mains and 3 different deserts and you could pick anything off the menu up to 12 euros.
The slopes where across the road, very close which was great.
After a day on the slopes we went to Pas 83 which had a happy hour on 4-5 (two for one on all drinks) which made a pint of beer 2 euros!! and a band on 5-6.
Marsels had happy hour (2 hours) 5-7 were a pint cost 2 euros.
Milwaulkee bar was bar far the busiest. By the time we got in here the happy hour had finish so a beer was 4 euros.
The bar next to milwaulkee (forget the name) had pull your own beer!! A pump on each table ment you could drink what you wanted then pay at the end. They had a leader board showing which table had drank the most. Good for a gang. Worked out at about 3 euros a pint.
Underground was full of blokes getting smashed and chucking beer around.
Paddy's was as you can guess, an irish bar. Quite busy, 4 euros a pint.
We also went to KSB which was a nice chilled out bar, 4 euros a pint.
There are a couple of clubs, Bilboard being the busiest but we never went in and was only told what it was like.
All in all, a very good holiday which i would recommend. My only bad point would be the noise but you could take some ear plugs????

I stayed in this hotel in the first week of Feb 2011. I was aware of negative reviews, however as a lads holiday snowboarding I thought I would be able to make the most of a bad situation should it come up. However,,, I was very pleased to find that the hotel and staff were very good. Clean tidy, VERY close to the slopes and bars etc. The staff were very helpful and welcoming at all times. Food in the morning was fine, coffee, toast, fruit and coco pops if you felt childish. Food in the evening was in a local restaurant which again was good, a choice of 3 options for start, main and dessert. The restaurant also allowed you to choose anything from the main menu to the cost of €12, leaving you to pay anything over that. Just watch out for the staff trying to sell vodka jelly at 6pm beore your starters!
Only a couple of small negative points, the stairs leading up to the reception both outside and into the hotel and made of what appears to be polished granite or something similar, nice to look at but a tad slippy when wet or in snowboarding boots. There is a ski/ board locker which is accessed by a door on the street level, this was very handy as it had a lift to all floors.
The second negative point is that the rooms are warm, and even although we had a snow facing room when the windows were open it was noisy, mainly English people trying to drink themselves into a coma and then trying to sing, a choice you needed to make was being very warm or having no sleep and very tired.

The tour company has planned evenings that are good if you like to party and are a great way to meet other people in your hotel. Well
worth a look.

All things considered, very good place to stay if you want good facilites close to hand and will be visiting bars etc, not the best place for families in my opinion. Would stay in the hotel again!

“Good value and position close to piste. Shame about the late night noisy party revellers in the street”

The hotel is well refurbished and our room overlooked the piste. Views were fabulous. We had sufficient storage for all our kit. Definitely worth upgrading to get a quiet room with piste and mountain views. Rooms at back have to suffer music, club and bar noise well into early hours- they don't close until 4am. No club noise in our 4th floor room, nice and quiet. Only problem was outside as lots of street noise from people going home from bars and clubs who seem determined to sing to the world and wake up everyone. The hotel is lovely and warm, but heating system is a bit noisy at night.

Housekeeping staff kept the rooms very tidy and provided clean towels most days.

Breakfast was traditional continental. I think they have made an effort to provide some better choice cereals eg muesli and cornflakes and other local varieties. Croissants were fresh, choice of breads, cakes and muffins, tinned fruit, yogurt, ham, cheese, juices and teas and coffees. Pascale takes a great pride in ensuring everything is tidy and replenished.

Pierre the owner was very welcoming and speaks excellent english, as does Alex behind the bar- who is English and very keen on football. Happy hour runs from 5 to 6pm with two glasses of wine for 2.5 euros.

The evening meals at the Restaurant Marselles provide good choice with generally 3 starters ,3 mains and 3 desserts or tea/coffee. The staff were really nice and helpful. The upstairs provides a quieter ambience with some nice views of the slopes. You can go from 6pm to 8pm and happy hour runs until 7, so you can get a couple of drinks for about 3 euros to go with your meal. Food was nicely cooked and we enjoyed all our meals. We didn't take advantage of the 12 euro credit to choose off the al la carte menu.

Surprised how good the grand valira ski area is. Good linked lift system with good signage. Hotel in perfect location for quick access to slopes.

Brilliant value holiday.

“Brilliant holiday, hotel was worth it..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

I stayed in the Envalira back in 2004, and the refurbishment is definitely an improvement. The rooms are very nice and comfortable with lots of storage space, although a coat rack would be useful. We had piste view rooms, and the view was fantastic!!
The rep is really nice and is called Gemma. She was always in the hotel so we never had any problems contacting her. We went on 2 of the ski guiding days, which were worth it, the reps knew exactly where to go and were very friendly.
The hotel can be noisy of an evening as Pas is big on nightlife, but as my friends and I were often out till the small hours, it didn't really bother me.
The breakfast is basic with 2 cereals (I wouldn't really eat them tbh), toast, croissants, ham, cheese, yoghurt's and fruit. I found this more than enough along with 2 types of juice, hot chocolate, tea and coffee.

The evening meal is in a restaurant round the corner called El Marsielles. For the money we paid, it was nice and we can't complain, Some nights the food was nicer than others but we had a 3 course meal each night, with 3 choices, the pasta and pizza dishes being the nicest. Don't ask for parmesan if you order spag bol, they get very moody at the mention of it (prob get it every week), they do give you cheese. They do a very cheap happy hour between 5-7, well worth it.

Pas itself has plenty of restaurants and lots of pubs and clubs. Our usual was Paddy's, as it is next door to the hotel and the perfect place for a drink once we finished skiing. For lunch, the bars slopeside are really good, but the service isn't great, think this is a Pas wide problem.

The Grandvalira ski area is large and has plenty of slopes, for all levels, to keep us occupied for a week. All in all we had a brilliant weeks skiing and the social side of Pas serves for an exhausting week, but is well worth it!!

“Much better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

Stayed in the Hotel New Envalira in January 2011. After reading reviews I was a bit sceptical about staying here. Holiday didnt get off to a great start after the lift broke in the hotel, meaning we had to carry our bags to our room up stairs (luckily we were only on the 1st floor). It was clear that the hotel had been refurbished and the rooms were nice and spacious. We had gerat views overlooking the sloples. The rooms were always warm. Only problem was that storage was very small, only 1 small cupboard between 2 people. The cleaner done a great job with the rooms and were always clean and tidy with new towells and the floors being mopped. The English lad behind the bar was always friendly and the manager/owner was always very helpful. The hotel was around the corner from the slopes, which was great. It was right outside a few bars and nightclubs, which was great for us as it meant we wouldn't have to walk far. I could understand why people at the back of the hotel would think its loud during the nights.

The breakfast was in the bar area. It consisted of 2 cerials, bread, croissants, yoghurt, ham and cheese, juice and hot drinks. The bread could sometimes be stale, but was ok for toast. We had our meals at the neighbouring el marseilles restraunt. You had a choice of 3 starters,3 mains and 3 desserts. Some nights the choices were very good but other nights were not so good. Having been half board at the restraunt last year, we were aware that you could have what you wanted up to 12euros. This made a huge difference. The food was good, but sometimes could be bad. If you asked for your steak or burger well done, it would still come out rare.

On the last night the rep/hotel put on a quiz for the guests. Was a great way to end the holiday. Everyone had some sort of free drink (we had a bottle of sparkling wine) and lots of fun. The hotel even made everyone a packed lunch for the journey home.

Only real negative was the stairs leading to the hotel were quite slippery when wet and nearly fell a few times.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would stay here again. It's great value for the price and would recommend anyone who isn't that bothered about luxuries.
