“We loved Newa Chen”

Staying at Newa Chen was one of the highlights of our trip to Nepal. This is a truly historic home and the restoration has been lovingly done. Rooms and service were excellent. Morning breakfast was quite good. The inn's location is just minutes away from the historic districts of Patan. As far as we were concerned, this is the best place to stay in Patan, without question. My only grievance is that the ceilings in the rooms are so low. I'm about 182 cm tall and had to stoop the whole time I was in the room. Standing straight up was a physical impossibility. But that is part of the charm of the place and there are good reasons for the low ceilings. Pity an apparently ugly building is being built right next door to this charming old home. Why aren't there better controls in the historic part of town to control the kind of architecture that goes up? Nonetheless, Newa Chen is still highly recommended.

“be careful if you are tall!”

like much of the old style Nepalese construction, you gotta watch your head when going through doors - and in many rooms even standing up straight! i'm 6'5 (198 cm or so), and bumped my head a couple times, but its a small price to pay for a genuine Nepalese experience.

Kathmandu's lodging options are pretty terrible unless you want to spend over $70 a night or so, and why should you have to? Newa Chen is a great exception to this rule. charming, relatively quiet, and nice staff. good location too! save yourself some trouble, and just stay where when in the valley.

“Newa Chén historical home”

I stayed in this wonderful historical home for 5 nights (16th to 21st November 2011)Mr. Shrestha and all the staff, especially Rashita, were so kind and helpful. My room was on the second floor, the name of the room Kalas, large room with double bed and a sitting room overlooking the garden. Having problems with my knees they very kindly brought me up a normal chair, which was very much appreciated as the bed was floor level and also the cushions in the sitting room.
By the way after 5 days I felt much better and even forgot my walking stick at times! The rooms and bathroom were spotless. Every day there was an abundant set breakfast also very important there was always fresh bottled water and fruit in the room. The position was perfect - two minutes away from Durbar Square and the Golden Temple etc.... A special thanks to Mr Shrestha, the owner, who helped my stay to be the most memorable one in Nepal.

“live the history from inside”

it is a great traditional building. I wish i had the chance to stay for more days to enjoy it. In the heart of the historical Patan, just 2 minutes from Patan Durbar square you can find a peaceful and relaxed place.
Worth for value....definitely!!!
I' ve been there for my last day in Nepal. If i knew how beautiful it is, i would surely had organized my trip in order to spend more days there, as the city of Patan is only 120 minutes by taxi from Kathmandu Durbar sq.
As i was travelling alone, i chose a single room (with sharing bathroom).
Althougth i didn't had the facility of private bathroom, it wasn't a problem. It was at the floor below and, i had the imression that i am in my place.
Very clean (both room and bathroom), with fresh fruites and mineral water on the table (free of charge).
On the patio of this great place, there is a wonderful garden with a kiosk in wich you can relax by reading a book.
The staff - members of the owner's familly, well educaded and polite, with great english speaking (not as mine :-) ) they are always there to serve you
If i ever visit Nepal again, this will be my base-living place for sure.

Room Tip: "Matsya Yugma" was the room i stayed. Realy cheap, quiet, with a view at the garden. Outsid...

“Simply brilliant!”

The Newa Chen family were kind enough to let us stay for 2 and a half months whilst working for an NGO in Lalitpur. In this time, we stayed in three of the eight rooms - each was wonderful. Each room varies in size, facilities and price making it a great place for a range of expenditures.

The building offers an amazing insight into traditional Newa wealth whilst acting as a gallery for the work of many modern artists. To compliment the beautiful surroundings, the family like atmosphere is unique. Whilst maintaining the upmost professionalism, the small group of staff are really keen to chat and share their experiences.

Breakfast is great - served between 8 and 9 am. Each day of the week brings a slightly different breakfast; including, fruit, omelettes, roti, kwati (spicy bean soup), toast, tea coffee etc. Sitting outside each moning with this, the traditional architecture and the daily newspaper is the perfect way to start the day!

Thank you so much Newa Chen! A return visit is guaranteed.
