“View is great, but room terrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Stayed here in February for only one night. The view from terrace and rooftop was great, especially at sunrise. Their food was good, too. But to be honest, the impression was ruined by the room. It was unbearably cold. Felt more like camping outside. No heat whatsoever, not even little heater provided. We had 2 twin beds in the room (2 of us) but only one hot water bottle was given. When we asked for one more, manager made a joke. They gave extra blankets, but it didnt help, we had to sleep in winter jackets and it was still very cold, felt just like staying outside. I couldnt wait until the night to be over. That night I heard other guests complaining about cold rooms as well.
I must also mention all the blankets were really dirty, as it seemed everyone slept in outside clothes before us.
We were promised hot water in the bathroom, but it got only lukewarm at the best. Bathroom was very damp and wet, with small rain warms crawling through the drain in the floor. I must say it was really disgusting. When complained to a manager, he said oh well its typical for Nagarkot, there are always insects here, sometimes spiders etc. I was really annoyed by his attitude.
I couldnt believe all the wonderful reviews I read here on TripAdvisor. Maybe we had wrong expectations coming there. But is it too much to expect - warm (or at least dry) room and bathroom, clean bedding? We payed $30 which is a lot for Nepal. Do yourself a favor and splurge $50 on a nicer place (I wished I did so many times during that night).
Rating "poor" instead of "terrible" due to only the view.

Room Tip: Don't! Stay elsewhere.

“The staff are the heart of this place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

After reading many 5 star reviews we arrived with possibly too high expectations and were a touch disappointed at first view of the rooms. There is nothing overly wrong, however they lack a few minor homely touches.

During our stay the staff were brilliant. My partner was ill and they did everything possible to support her. We were brought extra blankets, ginger tea and hot water bottles, which were a charming touch.

The view in the morning is spectacular and the service here is remarkable. For the very reasonable price, don't arrive expecting a 5 star resort and you will have a great stay.

In winter there could possibly be an option of small room heaters to take the chill off and maybe some art work in the rooms and this place would feel like home with a great view.

The Nepali food was fantastic on a cold winters night.
Would definitely recommend for all who can look past a couple of minor imperfections.

“Probably the best view in Nagarkot ... and that's just about it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

This place does indeed have probably the best view in Nagarkot. The day in May when we made the visit was draped in a haze - so, that clouded out our hopes of clear visibility of the peaks. But the panoramic views from the rooftop were yet enchanting, and offered up a most scenic sunset to round off the day. While in Nagarkot, there's not much to be done, other than taking a stroll along the mountains, so reserving a place of choice early on the lodge rooftop for viewing the sunset may be a good investment. And I use the word "reserve" judiciously - since not only the hotel inmates, but also locals touring the vicinity flock to the roof at dusk to catch the sun in its fall. Some of the rooms also have balconies with tranquil views of the surrounding landscape.
That, however, is probably all there is to this lodge. The less said about the food the better, and the rooms, though spacious and clean, could do with better maintenance. The staff are polite and helpful enough, though probably not the most efficient. The place is also a little difficult to find and reach, and the road leading up to it can cause serious palpitations for both you and your car.
Overall, if your stay is short, this is not a bad place to stay, especially at this price.
