I booked a room in this hotel from my computer while at a McDonalds in Amarillo TX. I was camping out during my road trip but the weather forecast for OK & AR was for rain and storms. I decided to get a hotel instead.
I researched hotels but all the good rates were not available for my day. Anyway, based on price and availability I booked a non-smoking room at the Days Inn of Conway, AR. Right away I had some problems as I never received an email confirmation so I called the hotel and they said I had no reservation. So I called the toll free number and they also said I did not show up in their system, but they made the reservation right then. All is now fine I thought...
Their policy is to allow cancellation until 6:00 p.m. Unfortunately I could not get there until later so I was locked in for the room charge. This proved to be a bad thing...
When I arrived to the hotel after 7:30 p.m. I noticed that the big sign was not even turned on... The hotel looked pretty sketchy from outside. More like one of those places where they rent by the hour. But I went in anyway, the lobby was not too bad, well lit and fairly clean. The clerk was very friendly and polite and told me that I had reservations for 2 rooms! Apparently the initial online reservation went through after I made the phone reservation. Anyway, they took care of that right away and gave me my keys.
Right away I did not even like the parking lot. There were only a few cars/trucks in the whole place and some of the other "guests" looked pretty scary to me. When I opened the door to my room, I was practically knocked back by the smoke/mold/spray stench! I went back to the desk and explained to the clerk, she was really nice about it and went out with me to give me another room... The "non-smoking" designations are joke, or more appropriately a cruel hoax.
We opened and looked in at least 6 more "non-smoking" rooms before I found one that was tolerable. I took that room which was the best of the lot so far. I decided to bring all my camping gear out of the car as I thought the place to be unsafe. I did not want my car broken into and my stuff stolen.
The room was totally unappealing. The carpet was filthy and stained, same with the bed cover. The furniture was old, dirty and falling apart. I dreaded sitting or touching anything in the room.. There was a fly buzzing around the lavatory and I killed a suspicious looking bug on the bathroom floor. I was concerned about the possibility of bed bugs and took every measure I could think of to prevent them from coming home with me in the luggage or the camping gear I brought in. I ended up taking all the camping gear I could hide back to the car and hoped for the best.
It was with the utmost reluctance that I got in that bed. I so wish I had cancelled that reservation and went to a better place. I would have gladly paid double what I paid to get a clean room somewhere. As it turned out there were some very heavy rains and dangerous storms all night which probably kept anyone from breaking into my car and probably masked any noise from the other "guests".
Until they renovate this place completely, I do not recommend it to anyone. It is dirty and shabby and ill kept. I thought I got a good rate at $60, but it was not even worth that. How I wished I could have just pitched my tent somewhere and spent the night in comfort!
Room Tip: If you decide to stay there. Be sure to view a lot of rooms to choose the least disgusting.
