“Not so hot”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The wife and I went to Yuma in January and stayed one night at this motel. Although I have seen rave reviews for this place we were sadly dissapointed. Why? It was frezzing cold in the room and there is no temperature adjustment. We went to bed at 8 PM in all the covers. By morning the heat had been turned on. Also the breakfast had a lot to be desired (plastic wrapped cakes).

Dear Guest:

Thank you for your feedback here on TripAdvisor. We value every guest and it is important to us hear feedback, both positive and sometimes negative. One of the programs at the Yuma Cabana that sets us apart from others, we believe, is our excellent customer service. Let me say from the outset that we cannot apologize enough for the inconvenience and uncomfortable stay you had. At the time you stayed we had a functional issue with our central heat which needed a part replacement that our vendor had to order. When the central heat and air function normally, there are personal controls in the room. In this instance we provided emergency portable heaters to every guest and I am unsure why you did not get one. Perhaps you were staying during the moment the heat stopped functioning. Again, an apology here seems like not enough. I would have felt the same way as you. It's unfortunate to me that we could not have direct contact prior to this review or an opportunity to address your discomfort.

One of the efforts we make is to encourage every guest to resolve issues before leaving the motel and a card is in every room to encourage this contact. We have a front desk manager and maintenance manager to help you resolve any issue you might have, and if you are still unable to resolve the issue before you leave, you are encourage to contact me directly. Any guest with a complaint like this deserves a response, a discount, or ultimately a refund. Had we been given the opportunity to resolve this before you left the property, I believe we could have resolved your disappointment. I still encourage you to contact me directly at info@yumacabana.com to work something out.

Thanks again for your time to post.

Best regards,

Melissa Moreno

“Super motel in Yuma - pet friendly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Early in December I stayed at the Yuma Cabana - with my dog. We were in Yuma for the dog show at the fairgrounds. Since I've stayed at the Yuma Cabana before, I expected - and got - another great motel experience.

This isn't a luxury hotel, but the rooms are good-sized and in good shape. Beds: comfortable. Bathrooms: clean - and everything functioned perfectly. In the rooms: small fridge, microwave and hair dryer. Cable TV and free WiFi (you'll get the password when you check in).

I can't speak to the continental breakfast, but it's offered every morning in the lobby.

The people at the desk are very friendly and provide good old customer service (and that's a rarity these days). Location: right on the main drag and close to sit-down or fast food restaurants.

One issue: the room doors are pretty noisy when closing ... but they are secure so that's the tradeoff.

I'm in Yuma several times a year and will always try to stay at the Yuma Cabana. The price is right and so is the service.

Room Tip: If you have a pet, ask for a ground floor room close to the grass. Rooms on the east side are quiet...

“I look forward to coming back.”

My parents stayed at Yuma Cabana on their honeymoon in 1965 and I decided to make it one of my stops on a recent road trip. I looked it up online first just to make sure it was still a decent place, and I was not at all disappointed with my stay. I was impressed how a 1960’s-era motel is kept in such nice condition. I felt like I was experiencing a connection with the city of Yuma by staying in town at the Yuma Cabana, instead of one of the freeway motels. The people were very nice and I was very pleased with the room. I had originally reserved one of their upstairs “deluxe” rooms (poolside with balcony), one like my parents had stayed in, but ended up staying in one of their “suites”. The price for the suite seemed so reasonable, and we were feeling so relaxed, that my wife and I ended up staying 3 nights! Thank you, Yuma Cabana, I look forward to coming back again.

Room Tip: I recommend the deluxe rooms and suites.

“Loved it, will be back and telling friends!”

This place is a little gem. The decor is fabulous, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful, willing to answer any questions I had about the area, or even just to chat over coffee that was available in the lobby all the time. The pool was something I'd not encountered before - a Salt Water Pool and it felt soo good! This is my new go-to place the next time I travel through this area.

Room Tip: Ask for Poolside, the upgrade is well worth it!

“Bad Attitude, Unhelpful and Unreasonable on making reservation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

I made a room reservation online through expedia. The reservation terms clearly stated that the reservation would not be definite until it had been accepted and the credit card charged. 24 hours later I still did not have any confirmation nor had the card been charged.
I remade the reservation and almost immediately recieved confrimation. I then phoned xpedia to make sure that my card would not be charged twice. The put me on hold while they phoned the hotel (the whole unecessary procedure took over an hour). The hotel confirmed that they had two reservations and I asked that the simply cancelled out the first reservation on the grounds that after 24 hours it was unconfirmed and uncharged. They refused to do this. After more time on hold I believe they allowed me to cancel the second
reservation even though that had been confirmed. Why must they be so difficult. had they done their job right the first time I would not have had to spend over an hour just to make sure I had a room available. At this stage I cannot comment on the hotel rooms etc. Because of their bad attitude I also ill be checking in (if they allow it!) with an even worse attitude so obviously any comments after this would be prejudiced. They would have to have a tremendous achange in attitude for me to change my review, but I suspect they would not care anyway. I frequently visit Yuma on business but will make sure I never try to book this one again!

Dear Guest:

First of all, thank you for your review. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your experience. At the Yuma Cabana, we want to hear the good and the bad, because it is what helps us improve our services. And just so you know, this review was discussed during our most recent staff meeting. We all apologize to you, and we all promise to give the best and most personalized customer service possible. With all the competing hotels in Yuma, it is our most important goal!

Second, I am personally really sorry to hear about all this, and how frustrating it must have been for you! I don't blame you for being upset, and the reservation process and check-in process should be made easy for you. At the Yuma Cabana, we guarantee satisfaction, and if given the opportunity, I would like to be in touch with you to be able to discuss this with you and do what we can to make it better, and maybe help to change your impression of us.

As to the "Expedia" issue, please note we very recently began offering room reservations through Expedia, as a test to see if it works for us. It already appears this service is probably not in alignment with our goals of giving personalized service. Unfortunately, with Expedia, we have no control over the guests who make the reservation, we are not allowed their contact information, and Expedia completes the payment transactions. We have no control over canceling the reservations either, and if we ever notice a problem with a reservation through them, they cancel it and cannot rebook it, and do not work with us to book it properly. So that makes us look bad to the guest. If we could have contact with the guest, we could explain the error made and fix it.

Anything our front desk clerks did to make you frustrated or uncomfortable, please accept my sincerest apologies, and I hope you contact me directly so I can do something to help take the "sting" out of your bad experience. My direct email is info@yumacabana.com.

Best regards,

Melissa Moreno
