We stayed at the Lodge on our way to the Grand Canyon. We decided to take the Grand Canyon Railway rather than actually drive to the Canyon itself. From Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, it did not take us much more than an hour to get there. When we arrived around 8PM, there was a very helpful young woman who provided us with room keys (standard keys) and then we went to our suite. We stayed in the "King Suite" and it is quite large. There was a very nice kitchenette and then a living room. The living room has an electric fireplace that worked very, very well in keeping the place nice and warm. There was a second heater (I think a heat pump) that we used at night when we wanted just darkness in that room and it, too, was very efficient at heating the room well. There is a sofa sleeper in that room and, although they may have said it was a "queen" sized sofa sleeper, it really would not have comfortably slept our teenagers, and it was very "springy". We used it one night for a teenager but it was uncomfortable. But the king sized bed was very comfortable. The room with the king bed had its own heater and LCD TV (there was a larger TV in the family room). The bathroom had a separate sink area from the toilet/shower area which made it easier for the family.
The rooms were very very clean and decorated in a great "Route 66" style.
The breakfasts were continental and included with the room and included coffee/tea/cocoa, oatmeal, pastries, toast (great raisin bread). There was no milk (I think just complicated to refrigerate it, I guess).
Overall, we were very happy. We did initially think that the sofa sleeper would accommodate two of our children, but because it did not, we had to get a second room. They did provide us with a cot, but it was a real cot, no mattress at all. Our child thought it was the coolest thing and loved it and slept well, but it may not work for someone older who really needs a mattress.
We were able to walk to the Grand Canyon Railways Depot in five minutes and walked home easily. There are restaurants on the way that are fun for the family to eat at but they were very busy with tourists so keep that in mind. Plenty of gas stations for gas in the area and it was a beautiful place to be.
We would recommend it to anyone and we hope to go back.
