“Matanivusi and it's owners were perfection...”

This resort is way ahead of it's time. It's located on the end of a small private trail road where the tropical jungle meets a private beach and lagoon. The main building and the bures are elegant, spacious with walls of glass. The owners take pride in servicing their guests in every way. The cuisine was flavorful, well presented, a combination of local mixed fare with a hint of exotic touches, and finely crafted with a chef's finish. The staff is extremely friendly, very patient, local, knowledgeable, fun and sincere. If you are a surfer, there is the added bonus of world class surf for all ranges of ability. However, you don't need to surf to appreciate this tropical paradise. It's a fantastic location for honeymooning, vacationing with a spouse, vacationing with a family or traveling among friends.

Matanivusi is very eco conscious, which means it places an importance on the enviroment and it's sustainability, yet in a way that only enhances this micro resort experience.

The natural surroundings were preserved perfectly to encompass the resort. The bures are situated within a jungle of aged old giant trees, pure flowing streams, large palms, budding floral plants and vibrant natural fauna. It's also situated on the edge of a massive coral lagoon with ocean passes that lure in the best of snorkeling the world offers.

With it's tropical color pallete of coral blues and turquoise greens, this classic Fijian location is also a photographer's dream. Every angle of this location is absolutely picture perfect and can be appreciated for a lifetime from a scrap book or digital library. Each sunset offers a completely new array of airbrushed colors, hues of fushia, violet, mandarine or rust. And like all islands situated in the midst of the seas, weather also becomes a unique personality with each and every day.

Fiji weather can be spectacular in sharing it's blue clear skies or billowing clouds. Rain can dance from the heavens at a moments notice and depart as quickly as a whispering wind. Yet when the sun is in it's full radiance, it's a searing weapon against the pale skin that only the highest SPF can combat against. These unexpected changes only remind us that we are all simply under the control of a much greater power. And these continuous patterns are all a part of the Fijian charm and way of living.

This resort reflected upon me the Fijian lifestyle, relaxed, simple and yet orderly. Everything in this little world has it's place and marches along with the peace and contentment of a small trail of soldiering ants. The morning may bring with it an occasional wave of mosquitos, the afternoon may lure out a scattering of flies, and nightfall may lead upon itself a small fury spider. Yet everything is as safe, peaceful and unthreatening in this jungle paradise as a smathering of natural repellent.

Have a guide take you on a nature walk through the exhillarating jungle. Take a snorkel along the coral passages with fish large and small. Paddleboard across the shallow coral blooms teaming with sealife. Kayak up the rivermouths. Tour the nearby islands, eco parks and local villages.

This mini eco resort, Matanivusi, has it all. Everyone at Matanivusi treated me like family. So much so that I will always miss them, and will be lured back again soon.

And most importantly the incredibly talented owners, Donna and Brian, well, they've successfully executed a dream paradise that can be truly enjoyed by all... yet for a reasonable price.

It was a pleasure to treat myself to this, for all the hard work I've succumbed to over the years. And for these memories... that they will last me a lifetime.

“Relax, Rejuvinate and score waves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Was meant to visit the resort with some mates they pulled out, so went on my own Nigel No friends. But hey I loved it - Donna and Brian were terrific hosts and the staff were very cool and relaxed in their Fijian ways. The resort would be perfect for those with older children and for families that love surfing! Its also the perfect place for honeymooners but partners beware your other half may fall in love with the fantastic surf breaks on offer! Would I go back sure thing, currently trying to plant seeds with the family to return for a trip. Later in 2012.

Room Tip: All rooms have the same aspect, if any it would be one furthest away from the pool area.

“We Love Matanivusi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We stayed for a week in December and had the best time ever!!! Location is incredible, secluded and beach front, Matanivusi has something for everyone. The staff are amazing, extremely relaxed and always helpful. The hosts Brian and Donna make you feel part of their family.
For sure we will be back....next time with the kids as they would love it as well.
If you are considering Matanivusi, I strongly recommend it, not many places like this in the world!

My husband and I just got back from spending the winter Holidays at this resort. There are no words to express how beautiful the setting is and the family atmosphere! The owners, Donna and Brian, make a personal commitment to ensure you are always taken care of whether it be for a massage, mosquito spray or spending a day in town. I am not a surfer and was a little worried about enjoying myself and yet there were plenty of activities to keep me busy with the other non surfers like: diving, snorkeling, zip-lining, paddle boarding, water-rafting, paddle boarding, plantation walks, a massage etc.. The staff is extremely friendly yet professional.
Did I mention the food? A new dish for every meall which included amazing flavors and vegetarian friendly. We can't wait to go back next year. We feel like were part of their family!

Room Tip: The rooms are all the same and all private from each other.

“This is the life”

We spent a week at this lovely resort Dec 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My husband is a keen surfer and he sums it up by saying you can't beat warm water first class waves every day. He even did quite a bit of fishing and they would bring back the fresh fish that would be served as sushi by the pool or cooked for lunch/ dinner. We loved the food here which had a very seasonal healthy slant and was always presented beautifully. All the guests sat at a communal table for dinner and although this may be daunting to some, it is so sociable and fun. The owners (Donna and Brian) had Donna's adorable mum visiting whilst we were there and she was like a surrogate granny to our 4 year old daughter. You really felt a part of the family. The staff were all so nice and helpful and we all had many laughs around the bar or over dinner. There is also plenty to do for partners and children. Kevu (the activities guy) asks each day if you would like to go anywhere. My daughter and I went kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling. Our little girl kept finding coconuts on the ground and taking them to the chef to cut open for her but he said she needed to get one off the tree. Kevu then sends one of the young fijians up a tree (he was just like a monkey) and they cut the top off, stuck a straw in it and we had fresh coconut juice and flesh within seconds. Yummy. As a family we also went on a day tour to the waterfall and village and bought a lovely cava bowl that we had no problem getting through customs. The rooms are not air conditioned but this was never a problem due to the great ventilation design. They are positioned with amazing views and within meters of the water. We really needed to have some relaxing family time after a hectic year and we felt well and truly refreshed after our stay. In fact we were quite sad to leave. Thank you Donna, Brian, Shirley and all your great staff for a wonderful holliday. Paul, Tracy and Amara xx

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same and all well positioned. If you have little children you can take a baby...
