“Great value and close to The Canyon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Our family of 5 were able to fit in one room which was not large but we weren't there long anyway. The beds were comfortable enough but it is very noisy. Doors banged loudly for hours and there were lots of people yelling in the hallways. There were queues to check in and then again to reserve a table for dinner. Breakfast had a good range of items. It is served in a very large room so not a great atmosphere. The location is very good, about 10 minutes drive to The Canyon. We went to see sunrise one morning and then came back for breakfast. This hotel is not perfect but was very good value for us and I would probably stay there again.

“Unchanged bed clothes.... again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

There aren't a whole lot of places to stay near the Grand Canyon, and while I was wary of past bad reviews on Trip Advisor highlighting issues with unchanged bed clothes, the recent reviews have all been positive and complimentary, so I thought the Best Western in Tusayan would be my best bet for a comfortable stay near the Canyon.

Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. When i first checked in I was given a room in their annex building. I was traveling solo but had a booked a twin room online as it was the cheapest they had. I was pretty dismayed to find that both beds in the room, while made up, had crumpled sheets and were full of body hairs. I returned to desk and was immediately given another room without argument (though no actual apology was offered), this time in the main building. Again, a twin room, and again the sheets on both beds had clearly not been changed. So back to the desk, where I was told they would try and find me another room. The girl I dealt with was helpful, and did apologize on the second occasion (i think she was embarrassed more than anything). In the end they got housekeeping to change the bedding to save me having to move into a third room, in all the ordeal took about an hour from the time of my original check in.

I'm a pretty east going traveller and this was actually the first time I've ever complained about anything in a hotel, but as a previous reviewer has pointed out the most basic thing any establishment should provide you with is clean bed clothes - it really is a serious hygiene issue. Both beds unchanged in one room is bad, both in two rooms is very worrying indeed. This is obviously an ongoing problem with this hotel, and I'd urge anyone staying here to be vigilant and make sure they inspect their bed clothes before tucking themselves in. Its a shame as the hotel (main building at least) is otherwise nicely appointed.

Room Tip: Avoid the annex if you can - the main hotel building is nicer.

“Very Nice in Many Ways”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

There are many positives about he Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn. It is conveniently located just 2 miles south of the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. Check-in was simple. The corridors to the rooms are located a distance from the main lobby so that noise is not an issue. We reserved a Deluxe Two Queen Room which was big enough for us to easily accommodate a rollaway. In addition to a large bathroom (toilet, shower and vanity/sink), there is a separate vanity/sink in the entry. Rather than the typical toiletries, the bathroom and shower/bath are equipped with soap/shampoo/conditioner dispensers. The shower is also equipped with a retractable clothesline. As other reviews have stated, the room comes with a single-serving coffee-maker.
The "expanded continental breakfast" was above average compared to those we have had at other hotels. Here, it appeared that the scrambled eggs were not the powdered version. In addition to the eggs, there were sausage patties, O'Brien potatoes, a large variety of fresh fruit, hot and cold cereal, toast, bagels, muffins, doughnuts, yogurt, coffee, tea and orange juice. Since the winter is the off-season, breakfast is served in an area that serves as a restaurant in the summer.
I would definitely stay here again.

“Fantastic Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

There is limited choice of hotels to stay in Tusayan ~ I am happy that we picked this one! We stayed here the last week of January for 2 nights. Hotel is clean, bright, with various things to do. Staying in this area in the off season, places close early with little to do if you aren't hiking or camping at the canyon over night. This hotel offered different dining options as well as an arcade, billards, exercise room and a bowling alley - there is also an indoor hot tub you can use in the winter months, as their pool area is outside so is closed in winter months. This hotel is great because there really isn't any other options to chose from at night time in the off season for dining -- besides a McDonald's up the road & a Wendy's (the Wendy's closed earlier than McDonald's did. Also, FYI we did try going to another restaurant we saw up the road a little more - a pizza place - it was 7:20pm when we walked in and we were told they were CLOSED for the night).
Check-in was quick and staff was friendly & welcoming. We stayed in a king bedroom suite in the main building. This property has rooms in different buildings - I think if we decide to go here again, I would ask for a room in the main building again, so you don't need to walk outside or too far to get to the activities and dining areas. The room was very clean with a big bathroom that had a big circular tub and lots of counter space. There was also a "wet bar" area outside the bathroom which offered a sink with more counter space. There was a Keurig coffee machine in the room (along with various K-cups and tea) as well as a fridge and microwave. The bed was super comfortable with soft sheets & extra pillows <3 perfect. And the decor in the room is also great - they also had a book in the room about other things to see & do in Arizona. And don't miss the decor and history displays throughout the main lobby of the hotel!
We ate in the buffet area for breakfast - Breakfast is included and is GREAT. Lots of options to chose from: cereal, REAL oatmeal (not the instant stuff), fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, breads/toast, eggs, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, pancakes - I really loved that they had my favorite brand of hot sauce out to use because I love hot sauce on my eggs :) - juices, tea, coffee - and they even put out to-go coffee cups for you to take a coffee with you.
We just loved the small touches that made it that much better.
We also ate in the pub/bar area twice - each time with good food and awesome service. Our 2nd night we ate at the bar, I believe the bartender's name was Chi (?) - I wish I would have gotten his name right but he was terrific. We also ate the restaurant on the main floor - had soup and drinks at the bar - their french onion soup is great and the bartender (a woman) was also great - very friendly service all around. They also offered a lunch buffet for $8.95 while we were there, but we didn't experience it as we were out at the canyon during this time.
I can't say enough about all the staff we encountered during our stay here - they really made our stay that much more special. The front desk staff at check-in (a young woman & young man), the bartenders & servers in ALL the dining areas (the server - a woman - at breakfast was also SO nice to us), the hosts and cooks at breakfast were funny & friendly, the cleaning team I ran into our 2nd day when I needed more coffee - thank you ALL for making our stay wonderful!

Room Tip: I would ask for a room in the main building so you're not too far away from the dining areas and...

“The Best of Best Western - Grand Canyon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The Staff from when you enter and check in, to the wonderful wait staff in the resurants - this is a 'feel good' place. The room was clean and bright with a Kuerig, blow dryer, iron and iron board in every room. Visiting the Grand Cayon was surreal and the kindness of the staff made it all that much better.
We are thankful to everyone that made this an experience to remember.
