“Best Beach in Drake Bay”

Bahia Paraiso is located on the nicest beach in the Drake Bay area. It is also a long walk ( 1.5 hours ) or 15 minute boat ride from the northern entrance to Corcovado.
We stayed at this lodge after we were unable to get last minute reservations at some of the other more popular places in the area. Our room was clean and beds were comfortable. The food ranged from good to great. We had friends staying at a place about 1 mile east of us, who came to Bahia for lunch each day because the food was much better than what they were getting at their resort.
Snorkeling at the beach was good in the mornings ( lots of big triggers out there ).
Our lodge offered a few tours - we took the Sirena ( lower ranger station ) tour of Corcovado and although a bit pricey ( 120.00 pp ), it was well worth it. Upon our arrival we saw a Tapir, and it kept getting better.
The Osa is hot. This is not a vacation spot for everyone. By 11:00 in the morning the heat can be stifling. If you can find a hammock under an almond tree, you may be awakened by a flock of scarlet macaws right above your head.
Javier, Ajueristo, Freddy and Jose are nice guys made our stay a good one.
We flew Sansa from SJ to the Drake Bay airport, and then were drivin on bumpy dirt roads for a half-hour. At that point, and you take a boat for another 20 minutes to the resort.

“Excellent service and food, hot and stuffy accommodations”

The service was tremendous, the meals were delicious, the surroundings were amazing, the guides were extremely knowledgeable and fun, but the rooms are small and stuffy. They put our family of four (two adults and two teens) into a small room with one double bed and one set of bunk beds. The room had one small window, that provided no breeze. This area is remote, so we were not expecting luxury, but we expected to get some sleep. It gets hot and muggy in this part of the country--even at night. Power is limited to a generator, so after the sun sets at 6:30 or so, lighting is very limited. Each room has a fan, but at 10:00 they shut off the generator, so the fan doesn't do much good. After the first night of misery--all four of us awake all night sweating in a hot and stuffy room, I asked if there were any other accommodations available--we would have been fine with a tent, but they could not offer us anything else. Another couple with a small child were doing everything they could to find different accommodations; they were not getting any sleep either. Even though everything else was wonderful, we couldn't wait to get out of there so we could get some rest. We stayed three nights, and that was plenty. The rooms are too small and stuffy. They need cross-ventilation.

“Fantastic Place to stay!”

We recently returned from a eco tour adventure in Costa Rica. We chose to visit the most remote area, known by ecologists and biologists as the most intense and biologically diverse place on the planet. All our research on accomodations and booking was done online. We were quite surprised by how remote the area really was. On arrival to the Drake's Bay area, I had a sinking feeling as I saw some of the hotels I had seen online. Some were little more than shacks. At Drake's Bay we were met by a hotel employer who helped load our luggage and family into a motor boat for the rest of the trip. After a half hour boat ride, we arrived at the hotel which was a simple but beautiful tropical paradise. Everything was extremely clean, well cared for, and service was superb. Meals were not only very good, but presented with care and appeal of a gourmet restaurant. There were more employees than guests. Electricity was limited to certain hours- provided by generator, but once the shock passed, we didn't miss it. We had emergency light in our room. Tours of all types were available daily, included in our hotel package. Tours were led by locals who had pride in their area and a sense of responsibility for the environment as well as the safety and enjoyment of the group. Our only regret was not planning to spend more time there. The only drawback I could see was that communication to the rest of the world was very limited. The Hotel used radio contact every evening to a sister hotel in another area of Costa Rica to transact business. The nearest public phone was Drake's Bay, a boat ride away. For some, this would be a problem. For us, it was a delight.
