After reading the reviews I was dissapointed in the Drake Bay Wilderness Resort. The accomidations were minimalistic…unconfortable bed, very small bathroom with little water preasure. If you are looking for romance this is not the place. There is NO privacy with very thin walls and open screens (which are nice for the outdoor feel but not so nice for noise (we were in room 14 and were kept up late by parties from the nearby bar). Since most excursions start at 6 ot 7 AM being kept up late is i big deal. There were a lot of little things bad about the accomidations. For example they have a great location overlooking the beach. But there was only ONE lounge chair to “lounge in”to read a book or just take a nap. There were two hamocks that were old and needed to be replaced. There were a few chairs that again were w=pretty run down. The rooms were clean.

The food was average at best and the afternoon snack was pretty bad.

On the good side, the excursions were terrific, the people were good and the service was good (not great, but good).

We had an incredible stay here!! Came with my husband and 2 adult sons. Entire staff is so accommodating and welcoming. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Food very good and we all loved the way we got to meet other travelers at mealtime and talk about our daily adventures. Be sure to order the "Tico" lunch to go when going out on an excursion- wonderfully delicious!! The nature guides were so knowledgeable and good at finding some incredible wildlife. Do not miss the BUG tour, be sure to book that in advance. Loved using their saltwater pool at the end of the day-very refreshing. The outdoor bar overlooking the bay has cocktail hour starting around 3 or 4pm- BEST Pina Coladas we have ever had too!! Having a daily laundry service was really great, since clothes don't dry out at all. Also a must...had a relaxing and very needed massage at their new health spa-it was wonderful!!!
Difficult to leave....

By chance with have found this great accommodation and were very happy with it. We came by car which was quite far but the road was in an ok condition except from the drives through the rivers, where it is necessary to have 4x4. Finally they picked us up by boat in the little city and had given a warm welcome. We appreciated that we could organise the tours just the evening before so we were very flexible. Laundry service was included and it is washed within a day. Great service! The place is very clean and well kept and the meals were served "family style" and were delicious.

Our time in Costa Rica would not have been the same without staying here. The staff treat you like family and make sure you have everything you need. The views are incredible, and we loved relaxing in one of the many hammocks and looking out at the ocean and the sky. The tours were a great value--we saw dolphins, macaws, and several kinds of monkeys. They also arranged a night tour for us with The Bug Lady, which was one of our best memories from our whole trip. The rooms are basic but large and clean, with good air conditioning. The food is average, but there was always plenty of it, and at breakfast you can eat as much as you want, which keeps you from getting hungry later when you're on the tours. We would definitely stay here again if we went back to Drake Bay.
