“Friendly and Helpful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2010

I booked this motel for three reasons - close to Arizona State University, good price and pictures on the internet. I stayed for three weeks, and took a course at the university. The guys at the front desk were very accommodating and friendly. It was great! I bugged them every day for something. Where can I get a haircut, where is the closest grocery store, closest car rental, etc., etc. The rooms are average size. The maids did a great job every day and were always pleasant. I got a room at the back, away from the street and it was nice and quiet.

“Worst hotel ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2010

Came here for PF Chang Marathon January 16-17. Big mistake!!!
Pros: Nice Location. Walking distance to ASU. That's about it!
Cons:Everything!!! Air condition not working. Reserved a non-smoking room but room smells very bad. Called front desk and said if I was willing to move to a smoking room and "maybe" the air condition is working. Since mine smells like cigarette anyways, I should have just chosen that one. Carpet is filthy dirty, all furnitures old with a lot of stains. Tiles in the restroom detached. This place is old, no effort from management to improve the place at all. Advertise as having wifi, a big lie. I am so happy to get out of this hell. It's just unfortunate that it is a marathon weekend and all places are fully book.

“Comfortable and Convenient Made Me Feel Like Home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2009

On a recent family get together in Tempe Az, my family had the pleasure of staying at this
budget Motel. We were not sure what to expect and we were all surprised to find a clean little lobby, with a complimentry computer for us to check our email. Wow didnt expect that at all. Also got a little coffee and juice to start our day. The clerks were friendly and helped us find a good place to eat .. Rooms are older but clean and neat, asked for extra pillows no problem. We got three rooms everything was just great and we would stay again next year. I like smaller family type places over the big chains with impersonal feeling.. Donna is a sweet heart..

“NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL IT IS DISGUSTING, BUGS IN THE BEDS!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

I booked a room at this hotel on expedia.com it was on sale for only $38.00 a night. I was up in Tempe for a big music festival with my friend. We werent planning on being in the room much and bascially just needed a place to sleep. We got into town a little early so we went ahead and checked in.Thank goodness we didnt just check in at midnight after the concert like planned. When checking in, the office smelled like smoke and seemed pretty dirty for a lobby. When driving to find our room, there was a dirt lot in the back with half put together single wide trailers. My friend and I had a chuckle about it, and even the fact that our room had no numbers on the door just marks from the dirt where the numbers used to be. Im a very clean person, but in this situation we werent expecting much and it just seemed like it would be a funny story to add to our fun night. When entering the room it was out dated, smelled odd and tiles were missing on the floor. I made a joke that we should check our beds, because at midnight we probably wouldnt care so to make sure they were safe now. When pulling back the blankets my friend found a small grey bug on the pillow, and I found 4 BIG BLACK ANTS under the sheets at the foot of thr bed. GROSS! We were out of there I can handle somethings when on a dime budget but that is crossing the line! We went to the front office to get a refund. The manager behind the desk was rude he said we didnt check in only a few mintues earlier because he was there all afternoon, when I told him a woman checked me in he shurgged like "shoot you caught me! I wasnt here the whole time". He then acted like it was silly we didnt want to stay there. He offered us another room, but added that the exteminator has been coming out weekly but ants keep showing up everywhere. He also added that it is just that time of year. Thats funny I have grow up in AZ my whole life and I have NEVER had bugs in my bed? We told thanks, but NO THANKS. It was a hassle to get a refund, I even had to call Expedia and sit on the phone while they talked to him. Anyways it was a pain and a waste of time. We winded up staying across the street at Super 8. It was only $14 more and a MILLION times better! It was super clean, updated, and NO BUGS! Remember just because you need a cheap place to stay dosent mean you should sleep in a DUMP! You would be better off sleeping in your car than there!

“It was just okay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2008

We had stayed at another ABVI in New Mexico and that was fairly decent. What made me choose the one in Tempe was that there was a decent breakfast in New Mexico and thought Tempe would be similar since we were going to be busy in the mornings.

Unfortunately the breakfast was a continental one with coffee, juice, and rolls, and we had to eat out. The room was a bit smaller than in New Mexico but the air conditioning was great because it was about 107 degrees outside. They actually have two pools but the smaller one was locked up during our stay.

My wife had an issue with the TV not working and the clerk was rude. They did switch out the TV and cable box after my wife told them not to speak rudely to her.

We got a pretty good rate over the Internet but in the end it was only a notch up from a Motel 6. This is definitely a budget hotel and it is okay if you come in with that expectation.

I have to recommend a Chinese restaurant on Broadway near Priest - the Hunan Express (south of west of the hotel). Great hot food and lots of it with very nice people owning the place. Give it a try.

  • Liked — Great location right by ASU and Loop 202
  • Disliked — The breakfast was disappointing
