“We only stay at Candlewood Suites...this is the worst we've seen!”

In reading these reviews, I had to double-check the address and make sure we were reviewing the same hotel. We have a dog and toddler and stay at Candlewood suites almost exclusively as a result. Generally, it is a fantastic chain and completely meets our needs. We were very disappointed by our room here, however. The room was in an obvious state of disrepair--all of the cabinets were peeling, some did not close all the way, the sofa's fabric was ripped and dangling across the floor, the chair was stained, the thermostat was ripped off the wall, the coffee table was very scuffed up and dirty. I carry Lysol wipes when traveling because I have a toddler. When I did my usual cursory 'germ wipe-down' of the tables, my wipe actually turned brown from the dirt. That was a first! If you stay here, perhaps ask to see the room first. It sounds as though there is quite a spectrum in terms of room quality.

“Candlewood NOT SWEET Suites”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

There was a national title game in AZ this week so I had to go the a hotel that would fit my expense and this hotel fit the bill. Short and sweet of it is that the house keeping/room cleaning is only done once per week. I asked when the weekly clean up was and I was told "basically if you check in on Monday your cleaning day is Monday". I was only there for 5 days. Kids run the front reception and when I asked about checking out early they didn't seem to care and asked if they wanted to plan my room check out in the morning. When I checked in the first set of keys didnt work so I went down to get them fixed. I was booked into a dirty room. I guess it wasn't a week later for clean up. The third time was a charm and the carpets were just plain filthy. I used the towels to step onduring my stay. At checkout I wasn't thanked, how was your stay or really acknowledge. If you are a professional and use to customer service don't stay here. The savings isn't worth it. The best part was the German Shepherd running down the hallways and barking. Poor Poor Poor

“Loved my home away from home!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

I came across Candlewood Suites after an unsucessful stay at another extended stay hotel. I am so glad I came to this hotel.

My room was a single bed suite, but it had a small kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, utensils, dishes, pots and pans, pretty much what I needed in a home away from home. The bathroom was a nice size with a sufficient amount of bath towels. My only complaint about the bathroom was that every time you turned on the light, the fan would come on. The bed was pretty comfortable, but the pillows were a little flat. There was also a pretty good size desk where I hooked up my PC through their free internet service. The internet would be a bit slow sometimes, especially when trying to watch videos online, but overall it worked pretty well and I had no major problems with it. The tv had a fair amount of channels, but some channels would consistently be unavailable from time to time. There was also a DVD player in the room, which I used often since you can borrow free DVD's downstairs for free.

Other amenities included free washers and dryers (which I loved), a place to buy snacks, drinks, etc., an outdoor pool, and a fitness center. Housekeeping came once a week for me and they cleaned the room pretty thoroughly each time. I had a few maintenance issues while I was living in the hotel, but the friendly maintenance guy fixed everything the same day I called. The staff at the front desk were very nice to me my entire stay and very helpful. The hotel is located right off of a busy street, but there are shopping centers, fast food restaurants, and the Arizona Mills Mall all within walking distance, as well as a few bus stops. It was also pretty quiet during the months I was there. I didn't have to call the desk with noise complaints. There were times though, when the fire alarm would go off, but this only happened twice while I was there.

I sadly had to leave this hotel since prices there were going up due to the upcoming Spring Training. However, the next time I need an extended stay in the Tempe area, I will definitely come back to my home away from home. :)

“Excellent and Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

My wife and I are closing a loan on a home in the area and needed a place to stay for a couple months. We picked Candlewood Suites for the value and because we could bring our two cats. We have a suite with a detached bedroom and it has worked out well, it is very clean and the bed and the furniture is very comfortable. The walls are good and soundproof as we have not hears hardly any noise from the many other guests that have come and gone.
I use the fitness room often and it is well maintained, clean and in excellent working order. We also have used the laundry facility twice each week and there have been plenty of machines available and they all work great.
The staff has been courteous, helpful and very friendly. All-in-all we would not hesitate to recommend Candlewood Suites to anyone in need of a long term situation.

Everything in the room was noisy! The bathroom fan, the fridge, the icemaker, the air conditioner. It was bare bones. But I guess you get what you pay for.
