“For a cheap suite hotel..... Not Bad!”
A colleague and I booked this hotel as part of a last minute business trip to Phoenix. Normally I stay at Staybridge Suites Hotels when I travel to the US for business, which is the big brother of Candlewood, but they wanted 3 times more (over $300 per night). Yup, 3 times more for a one step above hotel. As it turns out this Candelwood, though basic in most respects, was very clean, did not show wear and tear as Staybridges now show. The linens were of higher quality than the room portrays and the bed was surprisingly very comfortable. They had both wireless and cabled internet access of really good quality. I normally travel with an Apple Express to boost the internet connection but this was the first time in years I didn't have to do this. You could actually open the window properly. This might sound odd but there is nothing like fresh air at night instead of listening to a rattling AC unit all night which is either to hot or to cold.... As a business traveler this met all of my basic needs, but it is not a place I would want to stay for weeks on end. It was just a tad to basic as I wouldn't want to hang out on my bed if I wanted to watch a movie or read a book. I would prefer a sofa. This is where a Staybridge comes into play. The staff was friendly and helpful and they have a pantry with an honor system. This I was very impressed with as it showed they respect you enough to trust that you wont just take things without paying. The fitness room had 2, yes 2, treadmills, one bike and one step machine (what ever you call it) of good quality. It is 10 minutes from the airport and it was 20 minutes in heavy traffic to our meeting location. So, all in all I would say good value for money and if I find that I have to visit Phoenix again in the future, which would not be my first choice, I would consider to stay here again.
Happy Trails!
