“Some Pros, Mostly Cons”

I stayed at this location for 3 nights this past weekend. Because money is tight, I read a lot of reviews before deciding to stay there. The reviews for this motel were decent and it was centrally located to where our activities were going to be, so we decided to give it a try. Here are the positives: The rate was acceptable. Free wifi that was good. Fridge, microwave, and coffee maker in room. TV worked. Comfy bed. Here are the negatives: This motel is basically worn out and in desperate need of renovation/refurbishment. I could tell that housekeeping had made the room as clean and presentable as it could be--but it was still dirty and the bathroom was in disrepair. The carpet looked okay but had a sticky feel to it. We quickly discovered that it made our feet dirty so we made sure not to walk on it without shoes or slippers. The fabric on the upholstered chairs was absolutely filthy from spills and who knows what else. The bathroom looked as if some sort of refurbishment might have been under consideration but was never started. Even the "clean" towels and wash cloths were terribly stained, and some had ground-in black stains on them that looked like either grease or makeup. We had to ask for replacements. Same with the bed linens; they appeared to be crisp and laundered, but they were yellowed and stained. Yuck. The complimentary breakfast was bare minimum; cold cereal, instant oatmeal, packaged danish, yogurt cups and some dried up oranges. Whole milk only and no cold water at all. The coffee was good. You could tell the front desk staff were less than enthused about being there and even less enthused about trying to make their guests feel welcome. The grounds of this facility could definitely use a facelift, including a repaved parking lot. All in all, this motel met our basic needs which were a place to sleep and wash off but is severely lacking in the areas of cleanliness and overall aesthetics.

“Good value and location near ASU”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Stayed here looking for an affordable place to stay near ASU to meet some friends for a football game. I would definitely stay here again. I booked through Expedia and got a $54 per night rate. Best of all...you walk out the door and a light rail stop is right there, which is fantastic and takes you to the heart of Mill Ave. and ASU in a few minutes. Also really easy to get to and from the airport. Luxury...it's not. But the room was clean and quiet. Mattress was a bit firm, but not horrible. My only disappointment was the wireless Internet was not working the weekend I was there. Staff said they had called their vendor to get it fixed.

“Does the job; Very friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

First, pros: The price was right. The staff is extremely friendly. The stay was pleasant because of them. I was happy to have the free shuttle service, and breakfast was decent. There's a mini fridge w/ freezer and a microwave in the room -- two things which hotel room should have, but even rooms in some of the more expensive hotels do not.

I stayed here while attending a conference at ASU Tempe. The walk between campus and the hotel seemed a lot longer than I expected (con), most likely because of the heat, but the Orbit bus stop is pretty close to the hotel and is the Orbit bus is free to ride (pro). There's also the Light Rail that stops right across the street and goes to the transit center.

Cons:
There's not much you can get to quickly on foot. Once I got back to the hotel after a long day at the conference, it was an effort to return to campus for any evening activities.

There's a grocery store, a dollar store, a couple of restaurants, and a fast food joint across the street. The dollar store came in handy b/c the hotel lacked some of basic toiletries (a razor for those who travel w/ a carry-on only, conditioner, lotion).

The Wifi did not work in the room, and was down in the hotel lobby one day. If you must have wifi access in your room, you might better stay elsewhere and pay the $10 supplementary charge.

The printer in the lobby was out of ink, but they let me print off of the computer behind the registration desk.

The floors could use a real good scrubbing (carpets and bathroom floor)

There's a Light Rail station just outside the hotel (pro), and the arrival/departure of the train can be a bit noisy into the night (con).

I'll be returning to ASU for another conference. If it seems like the low price (hotel+shuttle+breakfast) will outweigh the hassle of going back and forth b/w campus and the hotel (w/out a car), then I will stay here again.

You can tell that this is a old property, but for the price we paid I think it was a fair deal... very conviently located close to every where we needed to go, and right across the light rail. the staff is very friendly. the pool was great my kids really enjoyed it. this is not a holiday inn, there-fore our stay was nice and we enjoyed it we will be back there when ever we are in the area, or returning to tempe.

Room Tip: they match my rate i only asked

“Better Days Inn than most.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2011

We stayed 3 nights at start of 'road trip' in order to explore part of Southern Arizona. Airport shuttle worked fine, and we were allowed to use it the next day ( one 'round trip' per stay) to collect the car, which I don't like picking up after a long flight, and would have meant a wasted day's rental as we arrived in the evening.
The staff were all pleasant and helpful. Breakfast room small but clean and bright, with cereals, fruit juice, teas, coffee, yoghurts, apples, oranges, bagels, cream cheese, jam, butter, bread for toasting and Danish pastries.
The room was average, but everything worked. Comfortable bed with sheet and blanket ( more versatile than the duvets that some hotels now provide...'all or nothing, when it's hot).
Stayed again on last night of holiday so could use shuttle again. ( it operates once an hour from the hotel; more flexible for pick-ups from the airport, however).
The price was reasonable for the service, location and decent breakfast.

Room Tip: Pita Jungle opposite has great food, cheap!
