I was planning to camp out somewhere near Sedona after driving from the Grand Canyon, but as I arrived to Sedona, there came a veritable deluge. It rained as hard as a Miami Beach summer storm and for quite some time. I got wet even wearing a rain poncho and holding an umbrella!
Anyway, all thoughts of finding a campsite and pitching a tent were washed away by the rain. I searched for a hotel and found several that quoted $89+ tax and one, pretty old and shabby that quoted $69+tax.
Anyway, I drove out of town for a bit thinking I saw another small, older motel that claimed low rates (I was trying to minimize my expenses). As I drove the rain got worse, the roads were flooding and the rocks were falling off the cliffs. To top it all, it began to hail!
Anyway, I was directed to this motel by a person at a much pricier place. I found it and booked a room for $89+tax. The place looked nice enough from outside and definitely a shelter from the storm. I got the keys from the clerk and went to my room, #9.
The room was tiny! it was nice in that it did not smell bad and appeared clean. However, it was quite dated and upon closer inspection, it was not immaculately clean.. It had a fireplace with a log of some kind in the grate, still in its wrapper. It also had a jacuzzi tub and a diminutive bathroom (not too clean) with a little shower stall, toilet and an inconveniently placed lavatory.
There was absolutely no room for any clothes or other belongings to store. There was a coffee pot on little shelf above the jacuzzi next to a tiny alcove where there was one of those folding luggage tables. There was a basket with a few filters that did not fit the coffee pot and some sugar & sweeter, but no coffee! There worst thing was that there was not even a table to place the coffee pot. I used it by balancing it on the edge of the lavatory! It was the only electric plug I could use that was near any surface other than the floor....
I brought in some of my belongings from the car and put them on the floor around the bed. This made it difficult to walk around since there was barely enough room to walk between the bed and the walls around it. Did I mention it was a tiny room? There was not even a place to put my toiletries. I wish they had used the space of the jacuzzi to put a small table and chair and some sort of shelf of space to store one's base necessities.
I did manage to find an inconveniently place receptacle to plug in my phone charger and by unplugging an alarm clock I got power for my laptop (yes, they did have WIFI). On the plus side, they were OK with my using a little BBQ area outside under a canopy to set up my Coleman stove and cook some food (there is only one possible place to get food within a long drive, a Dairy Queen). At least I manged to get a warm meal after the drenching storm.
I could not appreciate the views and surroundings too much due to the late hour and the weather. There was a pretty fish pond by the BBQ area with some huge Koi and there might have been a stream along the back of the buildings.
I did get a good nights' sleep and managed to keep in touch with family and friends with the laptop. I also managed to dry my shoes with the hair dryer after I fooled around a bit with the GFI buttons in the bathroom plug. That was a huge plus as my shoes were soaked through and through. Also, I felt happy to be sheltered from the inclement weather.
I would not likely return to this place for many reasons. I wont say it was terrible or scary. It was a shelter in a storm, but that was it. I had the uncomfortable feeling that the bed had been slept in and not changed... I would say it was uncomfortably small and badly laid out. The front parking lot as also tiny and there was not much room for the guests' cars.
Probably the rate was as good as one could get around Sedona, but I would say it was no bargain. In fairness, I should point out that I have had to stay in much nastier and scary places. This was neither scary nor particularly nasty. I don't think it had that moldy, horrible smell some places have, and it was not reeking of smoke either.
The woman at the desk was polite and friendly. She was helpful and accommodating. I was happy to get out of the rain and find a place to sleep. However, I could not recommend it due to the problems I discussed above.
Room Tip: Ask the clerk to show you various rooms. There might be better rooms in the property.
