“Location is everything. . . almost.”
The location is AMAZING. The pictures on the website are for real. Canyon Villa abuts the Coconino National Forest, so there is nothing to obstruct your view. You could get great pictures with phone or an old-fashioned camera using 110 film.
Our room, and all the public spaces, were immaculate. We stayed in Golden Poppy and it was quite roomy, even though it is one of the smaller rooms. The rooms are staggered, so that each patio feels private ~ but it is all one garden and people can walk by your room. The windows and doors do have privacy shades, however, and the glass is tinted. Don't bother with Agave, it is the only room without a view and you'll regret it once you arrive. Every other room faces Courthouse Butte & Bell Rock.
The afternoon appetizers were fine, but nothing to write home about. We stayed only one night so had just one breakfast. We had a fruit cup of berries & bananas. No canned peaches or bland melon. The berries had to be frozen (right? it was January!?!) but they tasted and felt like fresh picked summer berries. I don't know how they did it, but kudos. Next was one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had, followed by good cornmeal pancakes & glazed sausages. I'd recommend saving the cinnamon roll for last as nothing can follow it.
There were binoculars in the room and a telescope in the dining room to admire the amazing view. Seating around the fireplace was welcoming and cozy. The yard/garden had lots of seating. Don't know how the pool is, we went in January and even for a Minnesotan it was too cold to swim.
Canyon Villa is just off 179 but we didn't hear a sound from the road. Our room was very quiet. And of course, the view was fabulous. If you go winter, getting up in time catch sunrise is easy and it's worth it.
Added bonus: sales tax in Oak Creek Village is about 5% lower than in Sedona proper, that amounts to $10.00 a night extra in your pocket.
