“Perfect spot”

The Star Motel is not only perfectly central to all the urban Sedona attractions, restaurants, shopping, tours etc, but it is also the most hospitable place to stay. Our host Ann waited late for us to arrive, took lots of time to familiarize us with everything good about Sedona and the area including best hiking trails, look outs etc, and then offered a bigger suite even though it was somewhat inconvenient for her and her staff as they were accustomed to using the suite during the day. It was much more spacious for three weary travellers than the double room we had booked. It was spotlessly clean and attractively furnished with a comfy leather couch and handsome upholstered chairs and the beds were comfortable. We got fresh thick white towels everyday whether we asked for them or not; the kitchen was a great bonus. Thanks Ann, for your terrific sense of humor and unassuming hospitality.

I am pleased to hear how happy you were to stay in the "big unit". I knew you would enjoy a bit of elbow room. Thanks for the kind words, we really enjoy what we do and our reward is to have content guests that, we hope, will return year after year. Hope to see you soon!

“A beacon of funk in the heart of Sedona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

In most cases if you are heading to Sedona you are going for the scenery and the atmosphere of the place. There is no place better than the Star Motel for that. From the door of the motel you can see the main uptown area about 100 feet away. There are lots of kitschy little shops right there. Plus you can see the beautiful views of the red rocks of the mountains surrounding Sedona.

The motel is not designed for hanging out in. The rooms are fairly small but not tiny. And there's no luxurious services offered. But the weather is often nice in Sedona with cool nights and warm days, so you really don't want to stay indoors all the time anyway.

From the hotel you can walk to just about anything in uptown Sedona including restaurants, shops, and galleries. And since the motel is much cheaper than the other options in Sedona, you'll have money to spare for the other experiences there. There's a little convenience store next door where you can buy beer or wine and enjoy it on the front porch of the motel.

I'd easily go back there since Sedona is designed for day trips around the area (hiking, eating, etc.). And since you park in front of your room it's easy to get in and out.

“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Cheap, comfortable and it’s in the middle of this wonderful place. We walked to various places. There are parking spaces in front of the motel which is a good thing.I never stayed in a motel but I was happy with our choice.

“Loved our stay at the Star Motel....”

We did not have reservations but I had read about this motel and decided to check it out. We have been here a week and it feels like home. We head back to Illinois tomorrow and don't want to leave. I feel like I have a new friend in Anne, the owner. She went out of her way to accommodate us and recommended many things to see and do as well as great places to eat. This is our second trip to Sedona and we'll be back and know just where we'll be staying... The Star Motel! Thank you Anne for all you did for us and making us feel at home.

Room Tip: Close to everything you need to see and do!

“OMG--Don't do it!”

After breakfasting in town we returned to the Star prior to the 10 AM check out to find that our room had been stripped (bed linens piled outside, trash removed and dumped, etc.) and some of our personal items were missing. We called the number posted on the office door (no office staff from 8PM-10AM) and were directed to wait until Ms. Clair arrived. We then waited around while she hunted for the maid. The ensuing dialog centered around how hard the maid has to work so she needs to get a head start, rather than an acknowledgment that our security had been breached when items were removed before check out. This interaction kept us from getting on the road for an extra hour and was emotionally upsetting, with little if any concern by the Star staff. The missing items were eventually found in the maid's pocket and the trash. The owners have been contacted in writing via the motel website and have NOT replied.

Room Tip: shabby, outlet didn't work, noisty-cycle on/cycle off air conditioner, curtain need to be wedged...

Per our conversation, on the morning of your departure from the motel, I apologized to you that you had felt that your security had been breached and that someone would be in the motel office at 10 am (it was 9:50 am) and any items you may have forgotten in the room would be returned to you. The room was void of any visible occupancy, i.e. luggage, clothing, when the housekeeper entered the room to begin cleaning. The personal item to which you refer, a small travel size tube of toothpaste and three cans of soda left in the fridge, were returned to you, unused. Again,I am sorry that you felt your security was breached.
Sincerely,
Anne
