My wife and I stayed at the Ridge last week and enjoyed it. We went there on an Interval timeshare "getaway", got a great price and had rented a 2 BR unit. Initially (before arriving) I wasn't expecting to be impressed as I have been spoiled by Marriott and have had some past issues with Diamond. But, in total, I was pretty impressed with this place and would go back again!!! Thumbs up!
The pluses:
The place was very clean (my wife - - as she always does - - went around with Sani-wipes and said that the place was very clean. Kudos to the cleaning staff. They're doing a good job.
The unit was quiet in the evening and very comfortable
The bedding and towels were VERY good (I was pleased that the bedding was hypo-allergenic - - Marriott - - you should copy Diamond in this area !!)
The unit had been freshly repainted
The entire area is very pretty, lots to see and lots of good restaurants
There are computers in the lobby which were fairly accessible (free)
No bugs seen !
There is a free safe in the main and efficiency side.
The minuses (not enough to discourage me):
We were in building 22 - - on the map it appeared to be close to a spa but required about 50 steps to be climbed. Our view was very limited. But that wasn't a terribly big issue on this trip.
They were doing some major remodeling so we heard noise during the day. Our unit was not yet remodeled and had old non-flat-screen TVs.
The nearby gas grills were hard to start and it heated very slowly. I had to ask for help from maintenance. I think that the gas pressure was too low. But after "someone" - - wink wink - - turned up the pressure (to where it should have been) and it worked MUCH better both in starting and heating up.
We had a few minor issues (the radio/dvd player was unplugged), the gas fireplace had to be turned on and off about 1/2 dozen times before it finally started (every time!) , the clock radio is close to impossible to program. No HBO/Showtime.
The timeshare sales vultures were active at the activities desk. Typical pushiness but not to a fault.
Other: there are lots of restaurants in the area. On Thursday night the very nearby Sedona Golf Club (2 blocks from lobby) has a $14 buffet. Very good food. Cafe Jose, also nearby, was good. Red Rock cafe has moved a few round-abouts north. The IGA grocery store is only about 1/2 mile away. The Safeway is in Sedona.
We went on the Verde Canyon Train trip by Cottonwood. It was VERY enjoyable and relaxing. It is a "must do".
Things to consider when booking:
The upper floors have better views and are (reportedly) quieter. But there are no elevators
There are many steps to the spas, and no elevators ( an issue if you're traveling with people with disabilities)
They have good (free) coffee in the lobby.
