We stayed at the Apple Orchard Inn for two nights in mid-September. Our room, the Sedona Room, was clean and comfortable and had a nice little enclosed patio area. The common areas of the home were also very clean, with comfortable furniture. There were tons of menus for local restaurants and lots of books to enjoy during those quiet moments.
The location was great, in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of uptown.
There was one funny thing, though. No sign of Tom and Sheila, the hosts. Instead there was just one lady (Jean, Jane?) there the whole time. When I inquired if she had recently purchased the inn, she said "ten years ago". When I said that I hadn't had any contact with her during several email exchanges, and that I had always talked to Sheila, she didn't respond at all.
Breakfast was okay, but it was clearly not up to B&B breakfast standards. The first day, we were served juice, a small plate of fruit, two pancakes that I suspect were frozen and one sausage patty. No offers of more pancakes or anything. Coffee ran out. Next day, we had eggs and a tiny piece of ham in addition to the same juice and fruit offerings. Not bad, mind you, just not up to what we expected.
The jacuzzi and cooling pool were inviting, but I was uncomfortable with the cleanliness of the jacuzzi and only used it the first night. It was a pleasant area, though, to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.
Our room was not made up, nor was the trash emptied during our stay.
What we enjoyed the most was the hummingbirds around the patio and pool. There were certainly a lot of them, and their antics entertained us during breakfast both mornings.
Because I suspect there may be some staff changes going on, or Tom and Sheila were away or something, I'm still giving this inn a good rating because nothing was really bad - just a little off, for some reason.
