“Sleepless in Scottsdale”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We just returned from a week at the Scottsdale Camelback Resort. Unfortunately it was not our favorite vacation. Six of seven nights were sleepless in Scottsdale -- due to very loud road noise outside our bedroom window.

We arrived well ahead of the 4:00 check in with a reservation for a 2 bedroom unit. They were unable to accommodate ALL of our requests.
--We asked for a room that was close to the pool due to some physical limitations:
--Asked for a room without the 4-lane road outside the bedroom window:
--Asked for a room with either morning or afternoon soon.

They assured us we would get some sun. However, lots of trees blocked what little sun we got. And with the 4-lane road outside the patio, even if we did get sun, we could not enjoy it because of the road noise.

The patio was about 6-8 feet deep plus the length of the room, however, it had that cheap indoor/outdoor green carpet totally covering all but a couple areas with a 5 foot high stone wall. It was very vanilla and boring, not to mention noisy and felt very claustrophobic.

Everything had a price tag on it -- wi-fi $7.95/day thru ATT; $1 per page to print our boarding passes. Not real accommodating.

I called one morning to schedule a massage. Voice mail indicated that my call was VERY important. An hour or so later, I called again and got the same message...said I was running out and left a detailed message and my cell phone. I received no call on my call, and when I returned to the room, no message. I called the front desk and was told they were very busy. The concierge called a little later and apologized profusely and again reiterated how busy they were. I politely suggested that it might be prudent to change their voice mail on Monday's to indicate they were unusually busy and to try the front desk if you did not get a phone call within reason. They agreed. However I was left with the feeling that my call was NOT very important...and someone lost the business as a result.

The 2-bedroom unit is generous. They have made an honest attempt to update the painting and it is fairly well appointed. It is an older property and the bathrooms and kitchen are in sad need of updating. The moldings and grout in the bathrooms is pretty tired. We had problems with our TV twice, and they finally came and replaced it.

They have a very interesting "green" program going in the showers that is quite confusing. It would appear they have reversed the hot and cold lines going into the unit. There are information cards hanging on the shower head, however, one small piece of information missing..that being that you have to turn your dial to cold in order to get hot! I also experienced the same with the washer....cold/cold meant hot/hot.

It is very close to old downtown Scottsdale and Fashion Mall. It had a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, king bed in master with shower/jacuzzi tub and sinks. Second bathroom, laundry, and second bedroom with twin beds.

Food...not so great....go out and find a restaurant unless you want something convenient.

Room Tip: Be sure and ask for a room that is not on Camelback road. It is a very busy street and the road noi...

“A wonderful villa style resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We stayed at the Scottsdale Camelback Resort in January, 2012. We quite enjoyed our villa, complete with a fully equipped kitchen, fireplace, large dining table, couch and love seat, patio, bedroom with two twin beds, clothes washer and dryer, large master bedroom with king bed and adjoining bathroom with shower and jacuzzi tub. The rooms were clean and well maintained. We received housekeeping service once, but could make other requests through the week. We took the advice of a previous review and requested a room away from the street noise, and so had a quiet room. The patio was walled in, so we had a lot of privacy but no real view except for the top of Camelback Mountain over the top of the wall. The three TVs were all older style, not flat screen and could have been updated. The front desk staff and restaurant staff were friendly. The pool area looked clean and inviting. We ate at The Grille for one breakfast and it was okay, but we cooked for ourselves most of the time. There were two areas with barbecues which worked quite well. The location in Scottsdale was close to shopping and other services that we needed. We would willingly return and stay here again.

Room Tip: I would request a room away from the street side if you want it quiet.

“Enjoyed the Ambiance”

My parents and I stayed here in November of 2011. It is clean, quiet and has a nice variety of amenities. There is a movie theatre on site, a good-sized pool and jacuzzi, walking loop, volleyball, kids playground, and restaurant/bar. The restaurant was a great deal-prices and qualilty of food were satisfying. The property has a southwestern decor with comfortable floorplans. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful.

“Not the best stay we've had here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

Have been here 9 times in 15 yrs, Never have had a perfect stay but usually minor stuff. This time the hot tub at the pool wasn't working, no notice, no accomodation. Used the hot tub downstairs in the spa and were treated rudely by a nasty dispositioned massage therapist. The pool was totally closed one day and notice was given teh night before so no way to plan around the closure. Asked an employee if they would bo anything for the inconvience and was told sorry but no. Over the years they have made some improvements to the resort but I think the value of staying here is slipping. My wife and I really like to relax on vacation so we don't require a bunch of activities where we stay but we may have to look for a new resort in Scottsdale and use our Royal Holiday points elsewhere.
