“Bad, then much better”

I was attending a conference at the Fairmont next door, but they were full and suggested Zona. My assistant booked a standard room. When I arrived I asked for a room near the Fairmont and was given one. It was dark and small in Casita 9 on the ground floor. I quickly discovered that the wireless signal was very weak so I called the providing company. He could see my device and did everything he could to improve it. I only had a signal if I stood next to the door or went outside. Later I discovered that I had no cell reception. Next I figured out that there was no security chain or peephole in the door. The bed was good, but when I went outside the next morning there were dozens of dead flies outside. I finally asked for another room and was cheerfully moved to a one bedroom unit on the top floor. It was fine. On checkout I was asked about my stay and after I described it one night was taken off my bill.....so, what do I think? Do not under any circumstances accept a standard room on the ground floor. Complain immediately if things aren't right. By the way, I was paying something approaching rack rate. Would I stay there again? Not likely. First impressions matter.

“nice large suite, comfy bed, beautiful grounds, pool etc.”

large suite with sitting area, full kitchen area, bedroom and bathroom. Bathroom was small, could use some updating, cleaning or something. The bed was comfy, nice bedding. No free breakfast, but they have a good restaurant and a bar/lounge. They let us check in early and we could take the free shuttle back and forth to the Barrett Jackson auction. Staff was very helpful and friendly. With the taxes the room cost $186.00 for the night, was worth it to us, with the free shuttle to the auction, didn't have to worry about parking or driving in an area that was familar to us, as we are from Canada. The grounds/property are beautiful, very well maintained.

“Be sure to ask for remodeled room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The Zona is right next to The Fairmont and a good location. The staff is very nice and helpful. Food is very good. Bar and pool areas are nice enough. The rooms are more like apartments. However, I found out after we had checked in that they have only remodeled part of their rooms. We had one that was in very bad need of an update. Plus, it had an unfamiliar odor when you walked in the door. The bed was comfortable, but the bathroom was small and in severe need of remodeling.

Room Tip: Once again--stress that you want a remodeled room.

“Great resort hotel in the N Scottsdale Area!”

We have stayed at the Zona for a number of years and stay 1-3 weeks on a couple of trips every year. It is family friendly and the suite rooms with the full kitchen are great so you don't have to eat out all the time. Their restaurant is very good as well. The pools and hot tubs were warm and a nice way to relax at the end of the day.The staff are helpfull, thanks again Holly for all your help for our Christmas week stay!

“Fabulous! Would stay again!”

I went to Zona for a weekend away. The property was beautiful, all of the staff were super friendly and helpful, and the room I upgraded to was GREAT! My only complaints were: when I first arrived and got into the regular King room they assigned me, I felt like I was in a cave! It was on the first floor, which is actually below the walkways, so it felt like a basement. It was super dark and just big enough for the bed. I upgraded immediately to a King suite for only a small price difference and it was amazing! Spacious, more light, much better! My other issue was housekeeping. When I arrived, my room was very clean, but then they didn't clean it the next day. I had to call and ask that it be done. The next day, they came to clean it and I was still in the room but they didn't give me time to open the door before they were in the room! Other than that, it was a wonderful stay. I loved the transport service to local things. The restaurant was a bit pricey. I spent almost $20 on one drink and 3 of the tiniest tacos I'd ever seen. My room had a full kitchen, so I made my own food after that. All in all, a wonderful stay! I'd stay again.
