We joined another couple this past weekend in Scottsdale for the Barratt-Jackson car auction, and thought this Marriott would be a good place to stay. It seems like hotels in the area really jack up their prices during auction week, and at a quoted price of $135 a night during high season (winter in Arizona) this appeared to be a good deal. The architecture of the hotel matches other TownePlace Suites we have stayed in--two stories with two wings and plenty of parking in front. There is a small pool, and a small lobby where a grab-and-go breakfast is served 7 days a week. City and state taxes added another $20 to our bill, but it was the beds that really hurt. This is a hotel that really needs to upgrade the beds to Marriott standards. Ours were so soft that there was a noticeable valley where a single visitor had slept, and our friends agreed that they would not return to the hotel simply for this reason. We did get a discount coupon for the Mimi's restaurant which was a short walk through the parking lot and sustained us for the evening, but we were disappointed that the hotel was much further from the Scottsdale we expected to visit. If you want to shop the stores and Old Scottsdale, you have a lot better choices within the Marriott line. If rooms were available, we would suggest the Mayo one or the Residence Inn, for a higher price but a decent bed.
